So my wife and I were able to go through 3 mattresses over the past 1.5 years at Macy's. I weigh approx 135-140lbs and created a 1.375inch imprint within 4 months of recieveing our last mattress. We were going back to them to see if they can match their "angelique" $2400 mattress with SD's 'Lusaka' $1299 and 1800 'shawnee' 1399 Rooms to go "oslo" $1399. Macy's states that ALL their mattresses are exclusively made for Macy's. However, if you find a like mattress they will meet the same price.

I presented the scenario and different mattresses and their response is "Well, the Angelique has a Titanium base (which is unique to Macy's) - we cannot compare those mattresses". How is it possible to have "match a price" when they say all their beds are exclusively made for Macy's? I find this to be utterly ridiculous. They conitnue to 'sell us' on the fact that it will last longer - which is a laugh because of the problems with the previous mattresses. Granted if we weighed 250lbs, jump on the mattress, and throw my free weights on top - we may need the 'titanium base'. The specs are the same - the fabric is the same - the type is the same.

THUMBS DOWN TO Macys

why continue to purchase the mattress at Macy's if you have many issues with the mattresses?

That's the way the mattress industry works...just about every mattress retailer gets their own "exclusive" model from the manufacturers, so they all can offer worthless price matching policies. However, there is room for negotiation when buying mattresses from independent mattress stores (not sure about Macy's) due to the large markup.

If you're having problems with the mattresses, I would advise contacting the manufacturer, you may be able to make a warranty claim. But this could be normal behavior since the mattress you refer to has a layer of memory foam on top.

Why do you continue to buy from Macy's when you are finding comparable and cheaper options out there?

Have you checked Sam's and Costco? They have nice name brand mattresses for under $1000.

Took your advice.. went with 1800mattress and picked up the shawnee plush firm for 1180 including tax and and free delivery.

It's a king size simmons world class mattress with visco.

This mattress is topped with 2" of memory foam plus the visco, you will probably have the same imprint issue.

All my problems came up from pillowtop mattresses - which has the same amt of foam/visco AND a pillowtop. Hopefully I won't have THAT bad of an imprint as it's a plush firm. A firm would basically be sleeping on cement.

It's amazing how Macy's can mark it up almost 1200 for the SAME mattress. 1800 had it originally at 1600 and on sale for 1399. $1180 including tax and free deliv is a pretty good deal.

The issue has absolutely nothing to do with Macy's. Instead, just about every mattress out there will end up with body indentations. Pillow top mattresses are traditionally the most prone ones to body indentations, so it's not at all surprising that you've encountered so many issues with pillow top mattresses. Having said that, even non-pillow top mattresses have this over time.

In order for a body indentation to be a warrantable issue, it must either equal to 1.5" (Sealy) or be greater than 1.5" (Simmons). Other major mattress manufacturers tend to have the same requirements. The way indentations are measured is a technician is dispatched to your house in response to your claim. He/she than puts a string with weights attached to both sides across the mattress and then measures the gap between the string and the mattress. Keep in mind, however, the all mattress manufacturers do routinely deny warranty claims if you have any stains/spills on the mattress or if the issue can be attributed to improper foundation.

As a follow up to my post above, we used to own a top of the line Stearns & Foster mattress set (Sealy owns Stearns & Foster, which is a luxury mattress manufacturer), which we've had to replace twice in the last 5 years due to body indentations exceeding 1.5" (which is what's required by both Sealy and Simmons to authorize a warranty exchange). Finally, we got pretty tired of it and decided to purchase a new mattress. We tried everything from Sealy Posturepedic, the Hotel Collection (a Stearns & Foster mattress), Serta to the ultra expensive latex beds, the DUX Bed for $6K, Kluft mattresses for $5-$7K and Shifman mattresses for $4K-$5K. Out of all these mattresses for us the best combination of comfort and value was actually a Simmons WorldClass cushion firm mattress with 3" memory foam encasement, which we ended up buying from Macy's. As for the warranty coverage, both Sealy and Simmons provide a 10 year non-prorated warranty and authorize replacement for indentations of 1.5"

We ended up purchasing this Simmons WorldClass Angelique Cushion Firm king mattress SET at Macy's with 1260 coils and a 360 degree foam encasement -- our price for a brand new mattress set (not clearance, which typically carries no warranty) with free delivery and carryout ended up being $1,211 plus tax and Macy's offers a comfort trial and excellent warranty support. The way I got that price was by pointing out to my sales rep that this mattress (http://www.sdmattress.com/store/index.php?prodid=673) is specifically referenced at the bottom as being a functional equivalent of the Angelique and is selling for far less. Macy's then agreed to reduce their $1,897 price (ignore the higher prices on the website and in the store -- the $1,897 price was offered at one of their recent sales and they can easily honor it again) by another $214. A friend of mine's neighbor apparently works for Macy's corporate department, so we put the charge on his Macy's card to get the employee discount (standard 20% employee discount plus they were running a special of another 10% off on top of that; alternatively, you could've used Dealpass Macy's GC's to get the same discount). That's how we ended up with $1,211 plus tax.

By the way, the Sweet Dreams website to which I linked you above seems to also have very aggressive prices on mattresses, free shipping, comfort trial, no sales tax, etc... I don't know how their warranty support works though, since all warranty issues must go through your retailer.

Ecaval: How/where did you get a king Simmons Shawnee plush firm (mattress and box spring) for $1180 including tax and free delivery 'cause I'd love to pick one up for that price (I'm in New Jersey)? One of your posts said it was on sale for $1,399 at 1-800-MATTRESS, so how did you get it for $1,180?
