It may be a little early for this post since the Palm Pre is not sold online yet. The only way to get it is via a Sprint store. I have the $30 SERO plan, but after reading about how Sprint will no longer offer cool phones (pre, instinct, etc...)for the SERO plans without a change to the plan, I've re-assessed my options.

Granted, switching to a Everything plus referral *individual* plan (the new SERO) is expensive, but if you switch to a Everything plus referral *family plan*, it's a different story. A family plan with 1600 anytime mins and 4 phones will cost about $35.00 a line. I have 4 individual SERO lines right now, I will lose 100 minutes per line, and spend $5.00/month, but I don't use anywhere near the 500 anytime mins and can justify paying $5/month more for any new phones that come out, etc...

You're right in that it's probably too early to get any good info until they're available from Telesales. One method that I'm wondering about is just getting one from eBay with no contract and then calling to activate. Anyway, just curious if anyone is having any success or will in the near future.

I to would like to know more.. But from my digging on here it looks like the only 'cool' phone that would work is the HTC Touch phone.

Instict doesn't work as mentioned before and maybe its to early to tell on the 'pre' too but from what I read in other threads it won't work..

I thought the HTC TOUCH PRO worked on SERO too?

Well, I have a $50 sero plan (plus $7 insurance) that got switched to a fair and flexible to accommodate my starbucks employee discount. Starbucks allows you to purchase phones and service at a discount online through a particular website. I attempted to upgrade my phone (currently a touch) and had to submit account information to verify that it's my phone, and was able to get to the final stages of billing for the palm pre. I didn't finish because I'm not ready to drop the $300 or so dollars on it right now. However it did say the total after rebates and gift card for me would be $150. It said nothing about having to switch over my plan, however I didn't read the fine print of the purchase agreement. I'm pretty sure it's just a standard "you have 30 days to return or else" type of agreement. If my boyfriend plays with the pre and decides he wants to go for it, I'll complete the order and update any success/failure.

One guy kinda did on the second post of this thread on TreoCentral.

He had to get a new line and activate the Palm Pre on it first, but then he was successful at porting the Pre to his SERO plan and porting his old phone to the new line.

Not exactly what everyone is looking for since he still had to sign a 2 year non-SERO contract in addition to his SERO, but I could see this being helpful in certain situations.

But since the above is possible, I'm now wondering if in 6 months I'll be able to buy a used activated Pre and successfully port it to my SERO. I guess it depends on what exactly it means to "activate" and whether you can transfer an activation to another person or they need to re-activate.

(after all, we now know that it's the just ACTIVATION that is blocked with SERO, not using the Palm Pre hardware on a SERO plan)

How many "No, you can not do it" replies does it take to stop creating new "Pre on Sero" threads. Here are a couple pages in the original Sero thread.

NO, Niet, Nein....

Guys, my SERO plan is expiring in 2 months. Currently, i have motoQ and do not pay for data and SMS. Now, i want to get a blackberry. Can i extend my SERO plan and get blackberry for free? Do i have to pay for data if i want to extend my contract? Would appreciate your suggestions.

Yeah, 'cause a bunch of speculation from April is real helpful. You're not supposed to be able to do it...we know that. But this is Sprint. Based on the post above, it looks like it might be possible to buy one from eBay or somewhere else and then change it to your SERO plan. Time will tell I guess.

Would appreciate your suggestions.Blackberries require an additional blackberry data plan. However, please don't discuss non-Pre issues here. Let's keep this thread on topic.

I called SERO customer svc yesterday. The SERO plan won't work with the pre. You may get the new SERO plan for $59/mo (500min, unlimited data and txt) and then buy the phone seperately.

It will cost me $475 for the pre phone and an annual increase of $350 on my bill. If I could get the phone cheaper I'll consider but as it is, i'd rather pass.

Your SERO is not actually going to "expire." Your original contract will be finished, however you'll still be on SERO with the same plan and price. You'll just be going month to month and can cancel SERO anytime without an early termination fee since you are out of contract.
