Anybody get a Pre working on a SERO plan? Please post your experiences...I know a lot of us on FW want to know.

I too would like to know this.. I've been wondering what phones will work with the sero account.. I heard the HTC'pro will work but the instict won't work. My svc plan runs out next month and would luv to get the Pre..

Bump ... I was curious to know as well.

It may be a little early for this post since the Palm Pre is not sold online yet. The only way to get it is via a Sprint store. I have the $30 SERO plan, but after reading about how Sprint will no longer offer cool phones (pre, instinct, etc...)for the SERO plans without a change to the plan, I've re-assessed my options.

Granted, switching to a Everything plus referral *individual* plan (the new SERO) is expensive, but if you switch to a Everything plus referral *family plan*, it's a different story. A family plan with 1600 anytime mins and 4 phones will cost about $35.00 a line. I have 4 individual SERO lines right now, I will lose 100 minutes per line, and spend $5.00/month, but I don't use anywhere near the 500 anytime mins and can justify paying $5/month more for any new phones that come out, etc...

You're right in that it's probably too early to get any good info until they're available from Telesales. One method that I'm wondering about is just getting one from eBay with no contract and then calling to activate. Anyway, just curious if anyone is having any success or will in the near future.

Please someone be successful in doing this...

I to would like to know more.. But from my digging on here it looks like the only 'cool' phone that would work is the HTC Touch phone.

Instict doesn't work as mentioned before and maybe its to early to tell on the 'pre' too but from what I read in other threads it won't work..

I thought the HTC TOUCH PRO worked on SERO too?

Well, I have a $50 sero plan (plus $7 insurance) that got switched to a fair and flexible to accommodate my starbucks employee discount. Starbucks allows you to purchase phones and service at a discount online through a particular website. I attempted to upgrade my phone (currently a touch) and had to submit account information to verify that it's my phone, and was able to get to the final stages of billing for the palm pre. I didn't finish because I'm not ready to drop the $300 or so dollars on it right now. However it did say the total after rebates and gift card for me would be $150. It said nothing about having to switch over my plan, however I didn't read the fine print of the purchase agreement. I'm pretty sure it's just a standard "you have 30 days to return or else" type of agreement. If my boyfriend plays with the pre and decides he wants to go for it, I'll complete the order and update any success/failure.

One guy kinda did on the second post of this thread on TreoCentral.

He had to get a new line and activate the Palm Pre on it first, but then he was successful at porting the Pre to his SERO plan and porting his old phone to the new line.

Not exactly what everyone is looking for since he still had to sign a 2 year non-SERO contract in addition to his SERO, but I could see this being helpful in certain situations.

But since the above is possible, I'm now wondering if in 6 months I'll be able to buy a used activated Pre and successfully port it to my SERO. I guess it depends on what exactly it means to "activate" and whether you can transfer an activation to another person or they need to re-activate.

(after all, we now know that it's the just ACTIVATION that is blocked with SERO, not using the Palm Pre hardware on a SERO plan)

How many "No, you can not do it" replies does it take to stop creating new "Pre on Sero" threads. Here are a couple pages in the original Sero thread.

NO, Niet, Nein....

Guys, my SERO plan is expiring in 2 months. Currently, i have motoQ and do not pay for data and SMS. Now, i want to get a blackberry. Can i extend my SERO plan and get blackberry for free? Do i have to pay for data if i want to extend my contract? Would appreciate your suggestions.

Yeah, 'cause a bunch of speculation from April is real helpful. You're not supposed to be able to do it...we know that. But this is Sprint. Based on the post above, it looks like it might be possible to buy one from eBay or somewhere else and then change it to your SERO plan. Time will tell I guess.

Would appreciate your suggestions.Blackberries require an additional blackberry data plan. However, please don't discuss non-Pre issues here. Let's keep this thread on topic.

the touch pro works on SERO. i have SERO $50 plan. but its too early for the pre i give it 2 or 3 months to work..

I called SERO customer svc yesterday. The SERO plan won't work with the pre. You may get the new SERO plan for $59/mo (500min, unlimited data and txt) and then buy the phone seperately.

It will cost me $475 for the pre phone and an annual increase of $350 on my bill. If I could get the phone cheaper I'll consider but as it is, i'd rather pass.

tennisgeek said: I called SERO customer svc yesterday. The SERO plan won't work with the pre.We know that that is the official answer, but are hoping that someone has luck getting it a different way.

Your SERO is not actually going to "expire." Your original contract will be finished, however you'll still be on SERO with the same plan and price. You'll just be going month to month and can cancel SERO anytime without an early termination fee since you are out of contract.

i've got 2 sero plans and while I love the discounted rate, I hate the limited phone options. My understanding is that sprint will likely limit the pre forever (as they have with the instinct). Everything coming out of sprint in the past few weeks, including some internal documents posted on the web, specifically disallow sero plans. Maybe someone somewhere will get it to work, but it won't be me. Additionaly, I've also heard that sprint doesn't like the old sero plan as they end up losing money on it overall, so I'd imagine sprint will only make it harder and harder to hang onto your old sero plan.

I went and tried out a pre @ the store and was not impressed. It's still laggy and I'm coming from a slow winmo htc touch pro.

IMHO a phone's UI should be highly responsive for the day to day operations like texting / calling / etc. All the other stuff is cherry but do the basics right. I understand the iphone has had a while to iron out the bugs and make their UI responsive and hopefully palm pre will too eventually. It's just not there right now.

I tried to get it on sero, they said you could in about 3 months. But they mean that new sero $59.99. Said, even the employees can't get that phone for another 3 months. That said, I tried to buy one w/an everything plan $99. First one I got had bubbles in the glass of the screen. Second one did not close properly. Third one had dead pixels on the screen. By the third one, I was convinced the quality control guy in the hong kong plant needed to be fired, and I would wait a few months until a new quality control guy is hired. Phone is pretty cool though, software-wize.

That's just the number port, he was using his SERO number but it was ported to an SE account.

However, an interesting thread that may hold a clue:
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/182566-everything-plus-ref...

I've considered trying to get them to remove 'casual data' but I'm too chicken. And I don't have a Pre anyway so what would be the point?

On another note, EPRP Pres aren't available yet, that's where the 60-90 days came from; you are supposedly only allowed to order the EPRP over the phone or the web site.

I read some time ago on BAW (or maybe sprintforums?) that the new Instinct s30 is compatible with SERO, even purchase-able through the web site, but I can't find the link. FYI if my memory is correct and you can stand being a second-generation adopter. I don't know if SERO plans are allowed to activate the old Instinct now, though I doubt they would have changed (i.e. I doubt you can).

I don't get how anybody would try this right now? I am going to try to port my pre on to a sero account but not until after I get my rebate. Everybody had a $100 rebate for buying the pre and you can't port the phone anywhere within 30 days or you lose your rebate.
I am going to port it after I get my rebate and will let you guys know.

when I bought my Touch Diamond at best buy, the system would not let them activate the phone on my $30 SERO plan. The sales rep called but the Sprint rep could not activate it either, saying I was not eligible. The next day, I called Sprint (and somehow ended in retentions dept) and asked if they could make a note in my account to let any Sprint rep activate the new Touch Diamond that I am going to buy at Best Buy. This retentions rep put that note in my account and gave me a reference ID. (I think the note basically said to let me (i.e., Best Buy) activate the Diamond as I am renewing for another 2 years).

I took the reference ID back to Best Buy and told the rep there to call up Sprint and give them the reference ID. That worked! Now I have a Touch Diamond on my $30 plan which I ended up paying only about $40 for after all rebates, etc.

I wonder if something similar can be done for the Pre in a couple of months?

Palm Pre is just a phase like when TPro came out last nov and inst. last june.
Wait until the hotter phone comes out this year like TPro 2 w/winmo 7.
Pre will just be another phone.

Im on the TP/Sero w/my contract expiring 1 1/2 yrs from now, wondered what kind of phone will sprint have.
iphone 4g on sprint? got my finger crossed, att/apple contract only last 5 years

They allow you to transfer any phone you want onto your Sero plan if you own it.
They won't allow you to purchase new phone w/discounted price and transfer you into your sero plan.
You have to pay full price for new phone to keep your sero plan.

I've noted that the best way to keep your sero plan is just to buy phone at eBay and activate as replacement phone. I have done this the last 3 years. Yes, I have the $150 rebate as a bargaining chip so they won't mess with my account. They never charge me to activate phone and also if they change my plan I just tell them that I will leave. So far so good. They keep all the perks an paying only $22 after tas and discount. You can get HTC TOUCH PRO at eBay for $ 240 (brand new after live Cash Back). No tax and waiting for rebate.

I love, love, love my Palm Pre. I had the ic902 so I could still use Nextel direct connect but that thing never did anything for me. Today, I logged onto the bank, had Google maps running, texting with my daughter and e-mail from the office all open in "cards" at one time. Truly multitasks. I love it. I have the everything plan and share with my daughter, the 1500 anytime minutes so can't contribute much on the SERO thing but I saw someone say they didn't really like it so I had to throw out one I love it.

You should never logon to your bank on your cell. Only not so smart ppl does that. What you can't wait until your reach work or home to logon to your bank!

Yes that true, it's easier to tap your cell for conversation. I have ton of IT friends and asked them is it safe to login my acct. thru my cell and they said yes but, the signal from cell tower to your cell is not secured. This is how they tap your cell and this how they could steal your info.
Where do you based your info that is safe to login to your acct. w/cell?

The Sprint store rep told me that the demo software on the store phones makes them laggy and that the natural Pre is faster.

you gonna believe that?

I called just last week as I was hitting the 22 month window for a new phone. Got the same speech about losing my $30 SERO plan and having to switch to the $59.99 plan to get a Pre or Instinct.

Just upgraded my mogul to WinMo 6.1, a bit peppier, so i'll just keep waiting. Apparently you can get the current Sprint HTC phones with the cheap SERO plans, so thats an option for anyone with something crappier that can't wait for the Pre to be "just another phone".

With the iphone 3G S launch and supposed launches of the newer android phones "any day now", I think the Pre is going to drop off lots of radars quickly. And since WinMo 7 is going to be delayed forever (from what the intertubes are saying), I'd love to be able to pick up a Pre for a couple of years until WinMo gets it stuff together. I love my wife's iPhone, but the cheapest you get get for a monthly is around $90 with taxes. Thats a plan comparable to my $36/mo. incl taxes with SERO. No way will I ever pay that much more for a phone.

LOL yeah thats what i would do, ship a slower demo in such a way that the customers get disappointed

True. Some phones are available online for not much more than the best price that you can get directly from Sprint. sonysw said: I've noted that the best way to keep your sero plan is just to buy phone at eBay and activate as replacement phone. Skipping 53 Messages...

Palm has officially announced the upcoming release of the Pixi smartphone, aka Eos. It seems targeted for lower end users (compared to the Pre it has no slide out keyboard, a smaller screen, a 2 instead of 3 megapixel, and no wifi). That might make the Pixi a better canidate for SERO even though it does have webOS.

ETA: more Pixi info
