A local sprint store told me this afternoon that blackberries wouldn't work with sero either..... and she said touch pro 2 will be out in the middle of august. Both Best Buy and Radio Shack couldn't access my sero account using their SNAP systems... Radio Shack carries Centro for $19.97 after INSTINCT rebate. But my local sprint store my price-match request... |

The SERO plans were created when the Blackberry data plan was an add-on ($40/mo IIRC). This was true for every non-corporate schmo, on most every carrier (maybe not tmo?). I know you could get the BB add-on with SERO, but I doubt many of the CSRs that would remember how to do it are still around, and at that point you may as well jump to one of the SE plans, and sell the SERO to someone who uses WinMo. |

aleck said:Why is this thread still alive? You guys are either in denial or can't use google. That's a bit harsh. I'm seriously considering dropping SERO for the Pre, but that depends on getting what I want out of Sprint. (I'll probably update once I sort things out with them.) That said, I've always viewed Sprint's inconsistent customer service as a double-edged sword. Having uninformed CSRs means that things that aren't supposed to happen... can sometimes end up happening. I'm not sure this is the case with the Pre -- I'm not willing to buy one from a third-party to find out if I can override the block on activation -- but I've seen stranger things happen. |

I spent an entire day on the phone with these morons. I bought a $350 Pre on eBay and hoped to connect it with my SERO ($30 plan). I knew it would be hard but the first person I spoke to connected it right away...WITHOUT MENTIONING THAT HE COMPLETELY WIPED OUT MY SERO PLAN AND ADDED A $60 EVERYTHING PLAN!!! I used the phone for two hours and called them back to ask a unrelated billing question. The rep then mentioned a $59.99 plan and I was in shock. I then spent about two hours speaking to several supervisors who all said that my plan was gone and no longer in their system. There was no way to retrieve it. After completely go nuts on the phone with one supervisor he told me he would call be back to see if he can get my plan back BUT HE WILL IN NO WAY ADD THE PRE TO THIS PLAN!! By the end of the day he called me back and said he got my plan back. It wasnt the exact one and I had to go back and forth to make sure I had all the options and promotions I had received over the years. Overall I been with Sprint since 99' and they have never screwed me like this. I now have a Pre that is completely useless. If anyone knows how to get this phone on a SERO plan PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know. Thanks!!! |

I wonder if it's possible to modify the ESN on a pre (maybe spoof your current phone's ESN) and activate it that way. Might not be legal but people have done it for the 700p http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129244 Different OS, different situation, but maybe a hacker will pull it off. It's gotta be just a matter of time before hackers get hungry for the underlying linux anyway. Someone has already pointed out that it's easy to access the Pre's options to update the firmware: Gizmodo said:Developer Steven Troughton-Smith seems to have discovered that running unsigned (custom) firmware—even firmware that bypasses the activation process—is super easy.http://gizmodo.com/5288989/running-custom-firmware-on-the-palm-pre-is-rather-easy |

Jippjo, This site provides a way of activating a Pre (creating a Palm Profile) independently of Sprint. http://predev.wikidot.com/bypassing-activation My assumption, however, is that this is only one of the barriers to using the Pre on SERO, with the main one being that Sprint somehow can tell whether an ESN belongs to a Pre or not. Maybe all Pre ESN's share a common prefix, algorithm, block of numbers, or Sprint has a list of all Sprint Pre's manufactured which acts as a SERO blacklist. How Sprint specifically blocks Pre's from SERO is relevant.
- If they are blacklisting Sprint Pre ESN's, than hacking Verizon Pre's (once available) to work with Sprint while keeping the original ESN could work since Sprint might not have a list of Verizon Pre ESNs.
- If all Pre ESNs correspond to some Pre algorithm, then you'd need to find a way to genuinely spoof the ESN.
- If Pre's are blocked from SERO by Sprint blocking the Palm activation site URLs, but the ESN can be associated, then the link at the top of this post would be sufficient to solve the problem (doubt it)
I suppose Sprint might not be using ESNs at all if the Pre has something special and distinctive about how it uses Sprint network which needs to be specially enabled on a plan, but the only thing like that I'm aware of is the Palm activation piece. |

My sero is out of contract for three months. I am holding out the renewal for PRE. However, I am afraid that I may lose my SERO if I stay out for too long. So how long can you go without a contract? Also if I just renew my plan without getting a phone, will my $150 device discount go away? |

Also if I just renew my plan without getting a phone, will my $150 device discount go away? You don't need to be under contract to keep your SERO plan. You will not lose it nor will your plan change. The ONLY reason to sign another 2 year contract is to get a new phone discount. Given the situation with the Instinct, I don't expect the Pre will be allowed on SERO so I would not hold out for it. |

A SERO has no success with using Palm Pre so far. Anyone has an idea yet? |

I hate to say it but Aleck may have hit the nail on the head with the "Why is this thread still alive? You guys are either in denial or can't use google." comment. I just picked up a couple of T-Mobile G1s with a sweet corporate discount. In the end I am only going to pay about $30 more a month for them. If I get decent service at my house and they work as advertised I will pass my SERO plan off to my folks. Good luck everyone! |

Went online to upgrade. Selected pre, but it gave me a messsage saying I have to upgrade my plan. I got to the checkout page however with the $199 upgrade price, so it looks like they let you buy the phone but warn you it will not work. Pretty dumb. |

I actually have a Pre in my hands (not activated) and I want to dump my Treo 755p for the Pre but not at the expense of losing my $30 SERO plan. If this works it's great. |
