The eBay price for an iphone 3gs is currently $700. I can get a 3gs through at&t for $200 + $175 cancellation fee plus one month's service charge? If you cancel immediately do they charge you the whole month? Worst case I'm still looking at $200+$175+~$100 = $475 for a $700 phone. Why can't I just do this and use the profit to buy a 1st gen free and clear?

+50% of agreed upon usage.

What is agreed upon usage? I've never canceled a cell phone contract before.

prolly 1 year worth of service....since you sign a 2 year contract.

Wow I expected better from this forum. I haven't found anything on the web to indicate that the fee is higher than $175 maximum. Did I really get two incorrect responses and 0 correct?

Prices for an unlocked iPhone 3G on eBay are currently in the $300-400 range.

If you are serious about doing this go here to this forum and discuss it with them.

These are some of the worst replies I've ever seen to a simple question about at&t's cancellation fee. I know plenty about howardforums.

Pentium 4's are also cheap. Why would anyone buy a core2duo with intent to resell since they could get something cheaper with an irrelevant market value?

Well, excuse me!!! I was just trying to be helpful, by providing the link. howardforums.com has a lot more people that can answer your questions, being more knowledgeable about the subject at hand, because they are dedicated to cell phones and cell phone service over there. You are so ungrateful. Don't ask me to help you again!

did you read the wireless service agreement? here's a hint--it's linked off the top-level page on the AT&T Wireless website.

when you cancel the service you no longer have the right to an iphone at the subsidized price of $200. so you end up owing at&t full retail on the phone (substantially more than $200) PLUS the cancellation fee PLUS the first month's charge.

if you did, indeed, "know plenty about howardforums" you would have found this thread which answers your question on the first page.

now quit being a SuperA%% and do your homework.

.

Thanks for the link.

I read all 6 pages but don't know for sure if you wait 31 days to cancel. If you cancel in the first 30 days you have to return the phone and don't have to pay the cancellation fee.

I didn't see anywhere in the wireless service agreement about having to pay more to keep the phone after the first 30 days. Which section are you citing?

I did find this little gem. "We may change any terms, conditions, rates, fees, expenses, or charges regarding your service at any time." That's great guys...makes me really want to do business with you. I already bought a first gen iphone for $100 and use it on T-Mobile with t-zones, but I'm just curious as to the real answer to this question (cancelling after 30 days.)

why dont you just try it... get the phone and immediately cancel service. You do have the trial period so it is risk free to try

see what they try to charge you if you refuse to return the phone .

Make up some story like you already gave it as a gift and it would be rude to ask for it back, and the person doesnt get good service so they want to cancel it. If they demand too much money, just give back the phone and undo the deal
