New update on the OD rewards website FAQ [myworkliferewards.com]:
Q: What ink and toner cartridges qualify for the recycling program? A: Starting 07/01/09, you can recycle ANY ink and toner cartridge - NO MATTER WHICH BRAND IT IS!
The other terms are still the same, your rewards can't exceed your purchases:
Q: How many cartridges can I recycle per day and get rewarded for? A: Members can recycle up to 5 ink and toner cartridges per day - we'll take back any brand! Your Recycling Rewards will not exceed the amount of your total qualifying annual Office Depot purchases (Qualifying purchases exclude taxes; shipping; postage stamps; and prepaid gift, merchandise, debit, phone or services). Unearned Recycling Rewards will carry over from quarter to quarter and will expire at the end of the year. You can recycle additional cartridges but Recycling Rewards will only be issued for 5 per day.

Too late. This response to Staples won't win them back much business with their higher prices, bad customer service, & overall attitude. At least it gives us another place to recycle ink carts now. The Staples recycling has been a great benefit.

Brian,
that thread shows a date of 11/08, not likely people are going to look there for new important info like this. you should PM the op of that thread and ask them to update their title reflecting the changes I posted. if that's done, I'll ask the mods to lock this thread and point to that one to honor your request.

Can someone explain the Worklife Reward Exceeding thing. Say i earned $40 in rewards in the first quarter, and say uptil the next quarter end i have spend $200. So will OD send me a check of 200 or 160 given that i recycle $200 worth of cartridge in the second quarter.

I updated the OP in that thread to reflect these new changes to the O WL ink cart redemption program. However this thread is also nice reminder to those who don't knoww of and follow that original one. Thanks MC!
I turned in 5 and when I checked my account it showed 0.. I called and they said I had to purchase something at Office Depot and then I would get the credits for the ink. That sounds crappy to me!! I have 15.00 (5 @ 3.00 each) but cannot get the GC until I SPEND 15.00 first. Does Staples do it that way too?
Yes, that's right. Basically, for every dollar Office Depot gives you in ink rewards, they require that you purchase a dollar in merchandise. Another important caveat is that purchases with Office Depot gift cards don't qualify as counting toward your purchase amount. Sales tax also doesn't count.
Not sure but i emailed them a couple of days ago about using gift cards to pay for an item. While it doesn't qualify for worklife rewards the ink recycling doesn' say anthing and the terms are different.
