Thanks a lot for looking at my post. I am noob a audiophile so i need some help.
1) I am getting a used bose lifestyle 12 system (with receiver, remote, bass module and 5 double cube speakers) on craigslist for $400. I was wondering if this is a good price for a system that is so old.
2) Also, I'm getting a bose lifestyle 5 system for $300. Is this a better deal?
3) What exactly is the difference between these old systems and the newer lifestyle systems? I know these old ones dont have HDMI input, but besides that is there any other difference, in the speaker/bass/receiver quality?? also, will the sound quality be very different when playing HD movies without an HDMI input in the HTIB?

Yes, I have heard a lot of bad things about bose from experienced audiophiles while searching for a new home theater. However, the reason i still thought of getting bose, was that i have watched movies with a bose home theatre and thought it was pretty great. I haven't heard the sound of the brands you told me about, and im sure they would make a better sound system. But, I kinda don't want to set up my own home theater, and would prefer a home theater in a box. Also, bose has its brand value, which I guess at 400 bucks wouldn't be bad to have.. Also, since my ears aren't fine tuned enough to call bose sound bad, i thought it would make sense to go with bose.
Bose systems are typically worth about 10% of their street price. The lifestyle 12 system was available for $1000 several years ago, so that would place its value at about $100 (for a new system). The lifestyle 5 is worth about half as much as the 12.

Just some entry level systems, all less than $700, which are all MUCH better investments than a used Bose system. In all cases, you can upgrade speakers as your ear improves, and budget allows.
I'd say "ANY" Onkyo/Yamaha/Denon system will sound better than BOSE for the same price. Check out those systems by shank at different online stores like 6Ave.com (they have AFL5 promo code that takes off an extra 5%). I bought an ONKYO TX-SR706 receiver for $485 months ago and it is a real beauty. It is still considered as a good price also... I also bought 3 Klipsch speakers from ultimate electronics via haggling (300 for 2 RF 62s, and 330 for RC62). I now have 3 speakers only but they sound just AMAZING. Granted I spent twice as your budget but I can still sell the speakers to almost the same price I bought since they are fantastic and bought at quite a good price. Now if only I could find a b-stock elemental design subwoofer for less than $350...
But yeah, please don't waste that much money on a Bose system, and especially a used one...
ok, one more question Used Onkyo HT-S580 home theater system for $100 or new open box HT-S3100B for $240 shipped? what exactly is the difference between the two systems??
when you are looking at systems for this price its doesn't matter all that much. I would get the used system (as long as it works good) and use the extra $140 to upgrade the main speakers in the future.

Watch the Hot Deals forums - Newegg and Frys periodically run deals on Polk speakers, often with free shipping - best bang for the buck.
Personally, I woud avoid used speakers, unless you know who used them, and did not blow them out.

I'm looking at a Bose Wave Music System w/IPod docking kit. The price is $599 brand new ($499 for single cd/radio system and $99 for the dock). Is this a good system in your opinion? Are there other systems with the same features, quality and style/size that you would recommend I take a look at?

Thanks in advance for your response.I bought this system several years ago for about $75, it sounds great. It's discontinued, but the new Pure-Fi system should be comparable.
Thanks jayK. Are you familiar with any systems that have cd, radio, and iPod dock? Looking to replace my old Sony 6CD/Cassette/Radio system with something sleeker.

Looking to replace my old Sony 6CD/Cassette/Radio system with something sleeker. You can look at something like this, but to be honest I find it easier to just rip CDs to the iPod and download podcasts instead of listening to the radio.
