I have a 1994 F250 beater P/U that I now only use about 3,000-4,000 mi per year . The current 10 year old tires are almost worn out and are showing signs of dry rot ( cracking) . I don't consider it safe to haul heavy loads or drive at highway speeds with them . A new set of BF Goodrich T/As (235/85/16 E ) are about $625+ drive out price even at the warehouse clubs. I am halfway considering some of those no-name tires (usually made in China ) like Concours. Geo-trac,Ling Long, Mastercraft etc . I could save $125-200 ( fleabay +bing cb +local mtng ) . Any comments on these ?

- Thanks

Go to WalMart and get a set of the Uniroyal liberators. Drive out should be $450 or so and they are good tires with WalMart warranty. Stay away from Chinese tires, espeically on a heavy truck.

Hit your local new car dealership to see what they've got kicking around after the cash for clunkers as far as trucks go. They may be willing to let you swap out tires/wheels on the cheap since those are headed to the crusher anyway. I've seen some sweet trucks and it nearly makes me cry knowing they are going to the crusher.

Try looking for used tire lots, usually salvage yards or such run them. You could end up saving a lot of money.

WalMart doesn't have those Liberators (or any Douglas tires ) in the size that I need. The tires in the size I need start at $160/ea.

I had thought about checking the dealers" clunkers and pull-a-part for recent clunkers but have had not time to and timing is everything . I will make some calls to nearby dealers today.

I still would like to know about deals on new tires.

Did you check out TireRack.com? If they can't give you a good price, it can't be had.

I am still looking for a hot deal but I better jump pretty soon if want to buy new . It looks like the tariffs on on tires made in China will cause tire prices to increase regardless of where they are made .

I usually score great deals on tires on craigslist. Got a set (4) of 31x10.5 BFG A/T for $200 they had 90% of the tread left. They retail for $150 each. They went perfect on my weekend 4x4 beater.

If your looking new, try a set of Nexens. Best bang for the buck.

Get the cheapest tires that are made in the US, Mexico, Canada, South Korea, Japan, or western Europe. Chinese tires, even if they're not a Chinese brand, are often made in factories where they're not careful with the glue, and, as Bridgestone/Firestone showed a few years ago, the glue is very, very important.

Pep Boys can be cheaper than anyone else, not only because of their frequent "4 for 3" deals but also because they have a rewards program that kicks back another 5%, in the form of a Pep Boys gift card.

That's a steal!! I was looking for a set of these on CL without luck. These tires were $214 each on Tire Rack. Ended up with a set of Bridgestone Dueler's from WalMart for $643 OTD. Uniroyal Liberators were the same amount and what I wanted, but they only had 1 of my size in stock.

So far my almost daily search on CL and weekly at a Pull-a-Part yard in Atlanta has been discouraging . I may have to buy new tires .

larrymoencurly - Pep Boys quoted me $535.00 AR ( mail-in rebate and gift card ). However, I can't stand to have them to have my vehicle in their shop (overtighten lug nuts etc and even sabotage). I only would consider bringing them the wheels .

A reputable local independent tire dealer has quoted me $444.00 for a set of unfamila5 name tires (made in China I presume but I forgot to ask) . They told me they that sell a lot of these to small business fleets . They do not offer a road hazard warranty on these tires which makes me wonder .

Costco now has a $70 IR on at set of 4 BFG Commercial T/A tires .This a good deal on quality tires but the price is still over my budget .

Discount Tire B&M quoted Falken brand $511.00 ( without the "refund replacement certificate" option). Their price on BFG Commercial TA ( ( without the "refund replacement certificate" option) was about $100 more than Costco sale price.

FWIW- The current Maxxis Bravo tires are made in Taiwan . They have performed very well .

The guy upsized his Dodge rims to 17" and wanted to get rid of the tires quick. I am more than happy with these tires and the price.

craigslist is good, also check used tire shops...rarely will used tires be over $50 each installed.
