Found about this accidentally after getting an email from Sprint to call about my account.

While speaking to a CSR, he couldn't figure out why I was sent this email. The only thing he could come up with was I was being emailed to see if I was interested in renewing my contract with Sprint. I said that couldn't be it, and he informed me they are running a promotion this month where anyone who has a Sprint account who is eligible for upgrade credits can automatically get the $70 loyalty credit on top of whatever other promotions and discounts they qualify for.

So, my account is a family share plan which isn't up until February 2010, but they said if I renew in Sept, that would be $70 for each line.

If you're planning on staying with Sprint, and you're close to but not quite out of contract and want to get a new phone, this is a good deal, IMO.

I think you have to receive the email about the promo or to call regarding your acct to qualify.

What number did you call?

jtly said: I think you have to receive the email about the promo or to call regarding your acct to qualify.

Not always: they've offered this before and often their CSRs offer it without being prompted to do so. Glad to see this is back.

I'm 17 months into contract. Will I be eligible?

i had dialed *2i am guessing with the news they may be acquired by tmobile they are trying to lock up as many subscribers as possible. cant hurt to try and call

They have been doing this for several months now - any time we call about a billing or technical issue. Pass on the frist offer, and they will likely bump it up to $100.

SERO plans eligible?

canestim said: SERO plans eligible?

I was offered this credit on my SERO plan last year and I think a couple of people in the link I posted above were too. It may be ymmv, but it can't hurt to try asking if they could give you the $70 credit if you agree to a 2 year renewal.

canestim said: SERO plans eligible?

Yup. Logged in to my account and e-mailed a request. Got a response the next day and a $70 credit appeared on the account the day after.

I've gotten this in the past -- i have an old free and clear plan. And here's another tip, if you have leverage (ie, out of contract or very close) and want a new phone, always tell them that you want the after rebate price charged to your account, and you hate dealing with mail in rebates. They will resist, tell them otherwise you don't want to continue. Then, once they agree, still send in the rebate. Further, sell your old phones on Craigslist.

We did this with my account, my parents' account (2 lines) , and my g/'f family plan (5 lines). For example, we paid $50 / phone for Blackberry curves -- 4 phones -- $200 + tax. That's the After rebate price. We then sent in the rebate and our $400 check just arrived last week. Further, we've sold 4 phones for $190 in total. Ive done this with all the accounts I can touch and always have this success.

Hope this helps someone.

So this $70 thing comes and goes? Or is it something you can squeeze out of them any day of the week?

Thanks to everyone who responded. I wish I could just email them because I hate calling them up but I wanted to get a new phone also. What is the best number to call with a SERO plan?

Guess I'll go with the Treo Pro. I wanted to wait for the Palm Pixi but I doubt the Pixi will be available with SERO since it's WebOS and not WinMo.

This is the response to my email requesting information:

Sprint offers $70.00 credit for renewing contract for two years after
the expiration of the current contract. However, this credit can not be
combined with the handset upgrade promotions.

You can either choose $70.00 credit for renewing the contract for two
years OR upgrade the phone at promotional price with the renewal of
agreement for two years.

I am on the phone (2*) with them now and am hearing the opposite.

They will offer a $70 credit, plus $150 off a new phone + any rebates the phone may have.

I am in process of trying to do away with the $150 off a new phone credit (I buy/resell them off the internet as they start getting old), and instead am trying to have them bump my credit up $30 to $100.

Will update when I reach a conclusion, if I can can in fact get the $100 credit.

This is on a SERO btw.

I guess I'll try this. Do you have SERO? If they won't let me do both I'll just do the $70.00 credit because you can get the Treo Pro on eBay brand new for about the same price as Sprint ($200).

Yes I have SERO, they would only give me a $70 credit even if I was willing to forgo an upgrade. They *ARE* allowing a $150+ phone upgrade in addition to the $70 credit.

I don't have SERO

E-Care Sprint

I have already upgraded two SERO accounts of mine with Touch Pro 2's this month and I am trying to get this discount applied. I received a little bit of a different response when emailing ecare.

Dear Eric,

Thank you for contacting Sprint regarding the $70.00 loyalty credit.

The $70.00 credit is only provided to the customers, who want to renew
the contract on the account, without going for any handset upgrade
rebate offer. Unfortunately, we cannot apply $70.00 credit on the
account, as you have upgraded the handset on the account with upgrade
rebates.

If your friend has received an email, which states that the $70.00 will
be provided with handset upgrade rebate as well as loyalty credit,
please forward that email to us and we will assist you further.

We value your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
Please reply to this email, if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,
Alexx G.

So it seems as if I can get a copy of that email from OP or someone else who got it, and it doesn't say anything about not upgrading the phone with the contract this should be good.

The email I received didn't say anything about upgrade promotions. When I dialed *2 from my Sprint phone, I spoke to someone about my bill, and while he was looking over my account, he didn't see any problems, and he said the only reason he could think of why I'd get an email was to take advantage of the promotion.

So, if I were you, I'd just do the same; dial *2, speak to someone in billings, and tell them you were told of this promotion.

eCare seems to be hit or miss, IMO.

After having completed all the necessary transactions, I thought I'd throw this out there for everyone...

In addition to the $70 credit to your bill, they will send you a Palm Pre for $263 shipped/tax minus a $100 internet rebate.

I put it on eBay and someone used buy it now in under 24 hours for $400. About $300 personal gain on this one, not bad for less then half hour of work.

This time I dialed *2 and spoke to someone in the billing department and they told me that I was not eligible. They did confirm that the program is running. After asking why my account was not eligible the CSR told me that when they look up the account they are able to tell if it can be applied to the account or not. Not sure if I was getting lied to or not as the CSR was speaking very quickly and stumbling over her words. I have no leverage to try and get this since I upgraded this month already.

Just curious - how did you pull this off?

If you had to re-up for 2 years, the cost of that phone on your contract is less than the cost of service over two years.

I just called *2 and got it. Said a friend got the $70 discount applied to his account.

I am on SERO, I just renewed contract for 2 years a couple of weeks ago after getting the TP2, they just renewed me for 2 years from today instead. Still on SERO.

I am not sure what you mean exactly?

In exchange for a 2 year renewal on my original SERO plan I received a $70 credit on my bill and a Palm Pre for $163 shipped with tax after rebate.

If I wanted to use the Pre, I would need to upgrade plans, but I had no intentions on keeping it.

It also means that you gave up your phone upgrade credits for 1 or 2 years, depending on your plan.

Gave it up for two years, for some that might be a factor to consider, but it doesn't bother me much.

I've been off contract for 6 months+ and finally saw this post and made a pretty good deal for myself, IMO. I handle getting my phones on my own separate from Sprint

Is this $70 per line? So if I have 6 lines on my account 6 x $70 = $420?

The eligibility is account specific, according to their "intelligent offer" product eligibility. This is their cross sales application. I tried to get new phones and this $70 credit per line on the same call w/o succcess. However, two days after receiving my phones, and calling for a related question, I was offered a $50 credit per line (4 lines).

theverve said: Is this $70 per line? So if I have 6 lines on my account 6 x $70 = $420?

Yes - but they offer them one at a time to us.

Thanks OP! Purchased a Pro for the wife on eBay and requested the $70 loyalty credit last night via e-mail and the account was credited this morning. Now I'll just add the Pro to our SERO plan on the site and she'll be good to go!

Before I even got to your question my eyes were bugging out about the sales tax. Yes, they do charge you tax on the pre-discounted/full price. At nearly 10% sales tax, that is quite a bit... but it still looks like you are being over charged somewhat, 9.75% of $550 is only $53.62. Looks like they just rounded your sales tax rate up to 10%, how considerate of them. Not sure if it's worth the time to complain about/chase down the extra $1.38. The other weird thing is that, given the above numbers, your total should be $304.99, so they got another $0.82 off of you. What's going on over there!? Maybe it is worth complaining, if only for the principle of it.

Sprint repeatedly has told people that they will not apply the $150 upgrade fee of there is already a $150 instant discount on the phone. So I am skeptical.

I sent an email to SERO eCare, complaining about the price of the TP2 at $349 after rebate, and was told that nothing could be done. I emailed back, suggesting I might return the phone if that was truly the case. I then received another email from a supervisor, who called me after some brief security verification via email. She said that the $70 credit is an offer through their "customer lifecycle" department, and it isn't available to everyone. She wasn't able to actually give me any new discount on my TP2 purchase, service credit, etc., but she called a few other departments and checked into the various offers I had heard of on the interwebs. Ultimately though, I didn't have any luck with getting my TP2 for $199, the $70 credit, recurring credits, etc. Fortunately, its still a great phone, expensive as it is.

Skipping 56 Messages...

You can get a new HTC Touch pro 2 for $350 (or under) on eBay. Call Sprint and have them credit you $150 for extending your contract for 2 years. Now your TP2 is only 200.
