I woke up this AM to a puddle of water surrounding my fridge/freezer.
Everything in the freezer thawed, melting, needs to be pitched.
Condensor must be shot on an 8-year old top of the line Kitchenaid Superba model: POS.
Anyhow - about to start my on-line and B&M shopping for a new purchase today/tomorrow rather than paying the $300+ charge for part replacement/service on this POS.
I will be looking for a high-end unit, and may try the French Door style.
Sorry for your morning surprise. Costco.com as well as their B&M stores are a good place to start. Also I believe Home Depot and Lowe's have 10% off.

Thanks - all on my list of places to hit.
I did see the Lowe's Hot Deal going on as well.
Just got off the phone with KitchenAid, and found out (much to my surprise) major parts are covered for 10 years. I now have Service scheduled for Tuesday - which gives me a few days to assess my options.
Blocking the air vents can do that, but if the fridge cools normally again when the defrost heater is unplugged (do this only while the AC power cord is disconnected from the wall outlet!), then the defrost fan or defrost controller was the problem, and the DIY repair isn't too costly (shop around for parts -- some places charge much more than others).
I hate to say it, but Kitchenaid, like other Whirlpool-made appliances (Roper, Estate, Costko Kirkland, most Sears Kenmore) is actually one of the most reliable brands of refrigerators, along with GE, but unlike GE, parts tend to be among the cheapest.
See FixItNow and ApplianceAid forums for recommendations and fix-it information.
