Hello all,
Sorry, I am a bit cheap. I wanted to buy a nice mountain bike, but the prices are keeping me stuck, and I figured since this is the end of the season, (and I am cheap), then I can scout for a great deal?

My local REI has like the bike that I want Marin - Alpine Trail 29er on like 16% off ..... they actually have 4 in stock. They haven't sold any during their bike clearance nowadays. Does anyone know, if they don't sell them during this sale, will they go on an even more of a discount? how would that go? I am willing to take a bit of a risk to get a better deal to be honest.... but if they will not go on any further discounts, then I might as well just buy it now...

thanks

honestly if you dont mind not having instant gratifaction you can save some cash by building your own with parts from eBay...

Combine bing CashBack and FatCash for larger savings or just get a better bike for your money..

I see a lot of good deals on bike stuff at http://www.jensonusa.com as well

Cheers

Chuck

Everything at REI will eventually get cheaper. I've seen bikes that are old stock that go for 30%+ off. Of course they could be sold by then

Not sure how much you've been riding or if you're just getting into it, but if you're looking to get into the sport, I'd recommend the used route. Lot's of great bikes out there - craig's list is a great place to find em'. If you're willing to go old school you can pick something up with a nice chromoly frame and 21 speeds for as cheap as $50 - that's fully mountain bike capable (I rode and still have a 90' Giant Iguana that runs great).

With regards to the Novara - the groupo on that bike is questionable if you're looking for it to hold up on the longer haul - it's more of a recreational quality. Deore (or other brand equivalent) is typically the baseline stepping from recreation quality to a "true" trail bike. Also, what's up with the 8 speed rear cog?
