I bought 2 samsung 1tb drives at Newegg, both of them are defective, can't finish the OS installation, it took forever to install the OS, i had tried for about 2 or 3 days then finally gave up n contact them for an RMA, they are real nice to provided the prepaid label for me to send 2 drives back, today i receive an email from them:
We recently received your RMA and your return was then sent to our Inspections Department for closer examination. We regret to inform you that the product we received is not the same item you were originally sent from Newegg.com. The merchandise is consequently being shipped back to you and should arrive in approximately 5 - 10 business days.
We discovered the discrepancy because the serial numbers for this item do not match the ones in our records; it appears that this item was not sold to you directly by Newegg.com.
We recommend contacting the manufacturer directly to see if they can offer to repair/replace the item under your factory coverage, if applicable. Please visit the following link to view a listing of all the manufacturers whose products we carry: http://www.newegg.com/app/contactmanufacturer.asp?DEPA=0
If you have any questions or concerns, please direct your inquiries to rmainspect@Newegg.com or call 1-800-390-1119 during regular business hours for immediate assistance.
I emailed them back n say that what they had sent to me is what i sent back exactly in original condition without attemping altering/changing anything. Man this is the first time i have this issue with Newegg after more than 10 years loyalty customer, what would you guys to do if that happened?
Well, you can try calling and talking with them instead of emailing. Sometimes a real conversation will get to the bottom of things faster than email. But if they absolutely refuse an RMA replacement, Samsung should support them under warranty. Odd that both were defective.
I have a feeling that Newegg sold you a product returned by another customer, IOW a used product. So mail (mail -- not e-mail, not FedEx) a letter to your credit card issuer's special address for billing problems (no other address will do), and have the whole charge cancelled because the merchant didn't deliver the product you ordered. Just do it. Mention that you've tried to return the product to the merchant. Also file complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the California attorney general.
Next time, copy the model and serial numbers, not only off the drive sticker but also by running a drive diagnostic (HDtune, HDDscan, Drive Fitness Test, Samsung's own EStool). Also run the factory diagnostic right when you get the drive and right before you return it for warranty service.
It's unlikely that two HDs would fail so soon, so I suspect they were OK, or at least as OK as most Samsungs are, but maybe they weren't compatible with your hardware, especially if its SATA controller supports only SATA I (max. 1.5 Gb/s -- EStool can select this, under "Set UDMA mode") or is a VIA controller. Another problem, one that applies to all SATA drives, is that SATA data cables (the narrow ones) don't stay in place and can give errors if they're crooked.

Dear namcongtu,
Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I sincerely apologize for the issue you're going through and would like to try and assist you. We also actually welcome people to call us about any issue they have.
I welcome you to call me directly at 800-390-1119 ext 25092 or e-mail me at joshua.l.key@Newegg.com
The way Newegg packages hard drives, I'm not surprised. They are left to bounce around in the box only protected by a plastic case and an air bubble.
Newegg, I like you, I really do, but it's a problem that the internets have been vocal about and I have experienced. zzf gets the nod for hdd purchases until you throw 25cents more peanuts around drives packed in the middle.
Maybe you could send the serial #'s in one of the order emails so people can compare right away?
Good luck with the IPO.
OP, try a disk scan for bad sectors before doing the RMA next time, or post for help in the computers forum, never know what might come up.
