Just a heads up to those that signed up for the penny-a-year Cinemax offer from Dish Network. The promotion is officially OVER, reportedly Time Warner (owner of Cinemax) being the one to kill it. No word yet if existing .01 Cinemax offers will go the full year (or whatever you had based on when you subscribed or renewed) or if it'll be pulled early.
Looks like the end of November and it's gone. I just received this email from Dish Network...
We hope you have been enjoying your Cinemax programming at the special promotional price for only a penny a year. This is a courtesy reminder that effective this month the promotional period has expired and the Cinemax programming will be removed from your account.
Nobody offers more variety and top Hollywood hit movies than Cinemax. You don't want to miss out on the best value in movie premiums.
For only $12.99 a month, or less if you bundle Cinemax with other premiums, you can continue to receive all of the great programming you have come to enjoy. See more »
Thank you for being a valued DISH Network customer.
Interesting. I received this text on my October 4, 2009 billing statement.
Here's the DISH... Thank you for using credit card AutoPay with Paperless Billing for your DISH Network account. As a token of our appreciation, we have extended your Cinemax premium movie channels for just a $.01 for one additional year. Thank you for managing your account online!
No charges so far...

I just signed up for dish and got this promotion. Already set up the auto pay with dish and I'm good to go. Hope it's good for the entire year
I just got a letter from Dish saying the this promo period was over and they were going to start charging me $12.99 month.
I used to think that Dish was an honest company but no more! I don't mind them turning off the service if their promo period is over (even though there was NEVER any mention that there was a promo period) but to automatically start charging $12.99 is 100% dishonest.
Beware

My letter said the complete opposite, mine said if I want to keep the channel to call and sign up. If the letter says its going to charge you, just call and tell them no. Dishonesty is not telling you and just doing it.
i got *both* letters ... i couldn't remove the programming online through their website (and learnt that you can only remove programming through the website once/year), and so i called and waited on hold for about ten minutes until i got a rep who wanted my smart card number to positively identify me ... naturally this is information i'm sure we all carry around so i was unsuccessful. meh! it's so tempting to just cancel it all ...
It's still on my account and greyed out ("please call to change your Cinemax for a penny offer"). IIRC, mine started tomorrow (January 6th) way back so I'll see if it gets auto-deleted or not.
