It appears that with the new T-Mobile plans, the retention department is useless.
According to them, Tmobile changed all of the plans this Sunday.

Story:
Called up to extend contract and accept 600 min ,m2m,n&w, myfav for 49.99.
Was told that the only plans they can do are the ones available on the website. They would be able to waive the $18 phone upgrade fee.
I explained that I would be better off canceling the account and opening a brand new contract to get better prices on the new phone deals.
They said that they can't match the offers on the T-Mobile website.

As of now, Tmobile seems to still be the cheapest deal for the family plan for me. 3 lines, 59.99+$10 for 750 minutes. So will probably cancel and have other family member open another deal.

Has anyone else had a different experience or any suggestions?

This is not good news. If T-Mobile has decided to depricate their Retentions/Loyalty department, there is going to be churn. I suspect the other carriers are going to match (or come close to it) the new plans. Verizon and AT&T still have better networks and a better phone selection. The Retention deal I got ($49.99 Family plan with 600 min., N&W, M2M, and myFaves; $4.99 TZones) is the only reason I didn't leave a month ago. In fact the Retention deal I got 1.5 years before that is what kept me around then too.

If it's true then this is going to bite T-Mobile in the rear.

Weird they would pull this now after there mess up with side kick data for many folks. I would think they would bend a bit to KEEP customers ......Not give them further reason to look else where

I think you should call back and try again. Different reps say different things.

Sprint appears to have done the same thing - simplify calling plans and eliminate retention offers. From recent experience, it appears that retention departments are staffed by their better sales people, who are well trained in focusing on the benefits of the carrier - no more special discounts or promotions.

I spoke to a supervisor as well, who confirmed the same thing.

While I wuold love to be wrong, it appears that those days are over at both T-Mobile and Sprint.

This wasn't my experience - I called on Thursday (the 29th) and got the 600 min family plan with NW & MyFaves + 2 new TM506 phones for $50 - and kept my grandfathered $5.99 TZones. When you call, say "cancel" and you'll get right to retentions.
