Comcast gives us a rate increase

Well they did for me anyway, they raised my rates by 9.25%

the reason was "increased business and programming cost"

whatever, I am pretty sure this is the biggest jump I have had in a long time, I remember the last one was like $.07 while this one was $1.17

I was pissed about the last one cause I usually pay a month in advance so I spend less on stamps and I get a bill for $.07 I asked if I could just wait until next month to pay the .07 or will I get charged a $5.99 late fee ?

Lame, maybe they should not have spent all the money redesigning their statements.

1) Call to cancel
2) Get reduced rate even lower than before
3) Profit

They charge a late fee?

does it surprise you ?
here is there list of fees as of this month

nsf 25
field service 15
late fee 5.99
additional late fee 5.99
transaction fee 5.99 if you talk to a human by phone to pay your bill
and lots of other big fees for not returning remotes cable boxes dvr etc...

Stamps? You mean people still actually pay bills by mail?!

Those fees seem reasonable to me. Don't bounce a check, and you won't have to pay the NSF. AFAIK the field service fee only applies if there's a problem that's not Comcast's fault. Pay your bills on time and you won't have to pay a late fee, and you can easily avoid the transaction fee by paying your bills online or by mail. The equipment does belong to Comcast, so why wouldn't they charge you if you don't return it?

Since $1.17 is a 9.25% increase for you, you're paying $12.65/month for cable service? I find that hard to believe.

You can get it that cheap. At least under $20, haven't looked recently. In my area that would include pretty much just the local stations and nothing else.

yep, I pay 15.73 a month, I used to pay 14.56

is that too much ?

I get all of the local stations and stuff like tbs, syfy, mtv, history, bet ,spike, trutv etc in HD

I don't get hbo or any kind of premium channels.

my dad called me today and asked me what kind of cable modem he could buy cause Comcast raised the monthly rent for his cable modem from 2 dollars to 5 dollars I think he said.

and I agree about the nsf fee, I was just pissed because I had to wait in line at the comcast office to throw 7 pennies at them cause I was not going to waste money on a stamp or pay a late fee. (it is only like a block out of the way when I drive home from work )

you're b*tching about a dollar, especially when you hardly pay anything for cable? why don't you just wait until you actually get your bill to pay it so you know exactly how much to pay???

I was just trying to save hassle and stamps, dont you think they should put something on the bill that says
btw your rates are going up next month by x ammount ?
all other utilities seem to do that, or at least notify me that there is going to be a rate increase before it happens.

oh well, I am sure that pretty soon Cable will be a human right and the Govt will provide it to everyone on any type of public assistance, just like they are starting to do with cel phones. free cel phones

then I am sure my rates will then double cause I work.

and no, it is not the dollar it is the principle of jacking my rates almost 10% without notification

billmr said: I was just trying to save hassle and stampsYou obviously have internet access, so why not just pay online?

oh well, I am sure that pretty soon Cable will be a human right and the Govt will provide it to everyone on any type of public assistance, just like they are starting to do with cel phones. free cel phonesThat program (the Federal Universal Service Fund) has been running for over 10 years now, everyone already pays into it on their phone bill. It's actually more efficient to provide cell phones under this program than the current method of providing landlines.

I guess it is because I am old, I like paper, I get paper paychecks instead of direct deposit, (yes my company hates me and tell me that I am costing the company over 300$ per year ) I pay my bills with checks, and I always know how much money I have, it just seems more real that way somehow. ( yes I know about credit / debit cards and I even have a debit card)

I had a credit card but several months ago I got a letter saying they were raising my rate to something above 15% so I cranked 17k onto it and closed the account to keep the rate at 4.9% oh and yes that 17k is now worth 25k so it worked out well.

Lets take a look at this piece by piece:

I guess it is because I am old: Ahhhh BULLSH*T. If you claim to be old what are you doing posting here? You would have never heard of Internet let alone Fatwallet.

I like paper: Well the technology is there and if you choose not to use it and only want to stick with 1 option then the results are what you are experiencing. Why not try to figure out BETTER and more efficient ways of doing things.

Shahhere

shahhere, I probably old compared to you, the fact that I dislike computers does not mean that I do not manage thousands of them, in fact it probably helps, as for the internet I know everyone who was involved from the beginning. (no I am not talking about al, or dan quayle either)

Perhaps you can tell I am a crochety old man.

I stated clearly that I try to pay my comcast bill a month or 2 in advance so that I save $ on stamps, but when they change the rates with no notification it does mess up my cunning plan.

I never said I would have to pay an nsf, I only said that since I got a bill for 7 cents I did not want to waste a stamp. but they told me that they would add a late fee if I did not pay it until the next billing cycle, I suppose I should have just paid the 7 cents + whatever the next months bill should have been, but it was more fun nicely rolling the pennies at the comcast clerk and then demanding to see their public access file .

and yes you are correct, money is not the issue. it is not an issue for my father either.

the paycheck is cause I want it in my cold fingers, and I want to be able to have the hard copy of everything else, annoying the bitchy hr people who cannot touch me is just a bonus.
