T-mobile phone/plan downgrade experience ? in: Recommendation Needed

Currently http://www.wmdeals.com/ is offering $49.99 HTC Touch Pro II w/ the 2-year contract. And I'm sure you need to be in their data plan as well. I'm currently with AT&T but thinking about getting this deal, but wondering if T-Mobile allows you to do a "switcharoo". Like, after 3 months or so, you could switch to your old phone (such as KRZR, RZR, etc) then downgrade to the cheapest voice plan without getting any penalty on your bill.

Has anyone ever tried that before ? Thanks in advance.
