A colleague and myself both purchased refurbished Inspiron 1545 laptops with the current 15% discount. She attempted to return hers and they offered her $20 Cash Back if she would keep it. She said no, and they upped it to $30.
I decided to try this with mine as well. Sure enough (after being transferred three times) they offered me $15. When I said no, he didn't up the amount for some reason but I took it anyway.
Steps:
1. Call the main customer service # 1-800-624-9897 2. Say "Other" and then "Help With My Order" 3. Tell the specialist you want a return, they will transfer you to the returns department 4. When you tell the new rep that you want to return, they will again transfer you to a "return specialist" 5. When you get the return specialist on the line, tell them you want to return it (any reason) and they will offer $15. If you push your luck and say "ehhh, I don't think so" they may offer extra.

Got $25 credit when Dell had the price drop on the 42" panny plasma last month. Like pulling teeth though. Price dropped $50 the day after I bought it, and had to threaten to return it just to compromise at $25.
Dell Home has always done this for as long as I know, as an incentive for you to avoid them the hassle of having the item processed, inspected and returned for sale (if unopened) or re-listed as refurbished/used. But I would not abuse this at all unless it's a legitimate reason for returning a product.
They should remove this crap. Scamming companies for non-legitimate reasons "figured I'd give it a shot", is a cost we all pay in the end with inflated costs to consumers or lost jobs due to higher employer costs. Everything has a cost and you can bet that the company isn't going to be the one fitting the bill for this, it's going to be the consumer or the employee's of the company.

You have no intention of actually returning the item.
Im not sure of my true sentiments on this deal, however, on the same note buying online coupons and using them at Staples also fulfills the above definition since it helps personal gains at the expense of a corporations loss. Yes it is a loss because without using the coupon, the corporation would have had no loss.
There have been posts of stacking coupons at instances where the policy states not to stack coupons but somehow two discounts double dipped.
Like I said, I dont have particular sentiments about this. I do strongly condemn the practice of deals made specifically for disabled...like one of the thread I saw here which was to get discounted cell phone service targeted towards deaf people.
I like deals. I love Cash Back, free after rebate, and price matching. But I don't understand this is now being suggested as a way to earn a few extra bucks. The bar has been lowered. I wonder if OP was that fellow at Tim Horton yesterday screaming to the manager who was giving him credit back on his gift card for "bad food" but insisted on real money and stood there like a mad man.

OP, TY for posting and welcome to FW. However, I'd rather they just shipped my Win7 upgrade for free instead. If I don't have any issues with the product, i wouldn't abuse the system just to save $30 on a $600 laptop. Just MHO.
