Got me a letter last week stating my Elite rebate was denied due to lacking the "original upc code from the product box with the product name and barcode clearly identified from the product"
The only sticker on the box that had this was cut out (box and sticker), and taped to the Dell receipt. And it turns out a fellow family member also received the same letter/excuse. Anybody else get this despite conforming to the terms? I have it all photocopied, so here goes the hassle...and a future where I don't participate in rebates for a while again. Just sell it to me for a good price, dam it.

Call and send them the photocopies. I have had this happen a few times every time they took my copies and expedited the rebate check. What company is the rebate through?
Yes, I just got the same letter today. Surprised that M$ is pulling this crap, I thought ripping people off by not paying valid rebates was just for 2nd rate companies.
One thing that concerns me is that Dell delayed my order for a couple weeks then sent me an Elite bundle with 2 games. I'm wondering if it was denied because the UPC wasn't from a base Elite (which wasn't my fault). Did your XBox happen to come with games? I didn't even want the stupid games, I only use it as a media center extender. So I'll be pretty upset if I end up paying $50 for the games.
I called the 800 number on the letter and complained that I had in fact included the UPC and they "fixed it in the system" and will send my rebate within 30 days. So apparently it is just a shady rebate scam where they are hoping that X% of people won't bother to follow up and they'll get to keep their money. I really wish the state attorney generals would put an end to these rebate scams, they've been going on for way too long.
Well, it happened to me and my Mom. I called on my own account, they pulled up the scanned & stored paperwork, saw my UPC/Product name sticker clearly atop the Dell receipt I taped it to, I was given a confirmation number, and it was over quick.
However, today I called in for my Mom since she told me she received the same letter (and she lives in another state, so it's not like the same household issue here). I am told by this rep that what was attached was insufficient, that they needed "the whole sticker", but the UPC and product name are complete and legible on my Mom's copies. The tell me they'll "make an exception this time" but would not/could not give me a confirmation number.
Red Rebate of Death Yeah, MS.
