Who is seriously going out for BF this year?

I've gone in the past few years, but I've been less impressed each year (thanks to FW).

Now that the regular Wal-Mart that just the local town went to has closed and turned into a regional supercenter with 24x7 long lines it's that much less appealing, and even more trashy people will be in attendance. I could try to go to score the media chairs they had last year, but when you can't get peanut butter and frozen pizza after 3 PM because it's already sold out (everyday) my chances are a lot lower.

I was hoping to get a deal on a TV, but when it literally turns into a competition that could end violently, I think it might be worth the few extra bucks to have it delivered to my house. Not even WM, but all stores.

I'm seriously considering sleeping in late and spending the day getting smashed instead of watching the spectacle that is BF. I feel bad for the people in line who are doing it because it's the only way they'll be able to give their kids a Christmas and angry at the people who are defaulting on their mortgage and buying a new LCD for the den. I'd rather be drunk while they fight each other over the last Miley Cyrus Easy Bake Karaoke Machine™.

Is there a humbug I need to get rid of or does anybody else feel the same way?

Sounds a little judgemental to me.

i plan to spend the day at work

I'm spending the day at work too. I think BF has turned into a "pseudo" deal day. Used to be really good deals, but now if you don't get in on a doorbuster (ie. limit 4 per store) then there are better deals to be had online, or later in the shopping season. Just my opinion, but that's what I've found.

Home Depot never has a line --- it is worth stopping there if there is something you need in the AD

Because I have had back surgery and am in chronic pain, I cannot stand for more than a few minutes at a time. Therefore, I do my best to find deals online, or in some other way that allows me to stay 'far from the madding crowd' In a way (it's crazy, I know) I've missed the adventure of going out in the wee hours along with other hardy souls in search of that elusive deal!

BF has become a marketing gimmick for the less informed. With the help of sites like FW, PATIENT, educated buyers can do just as well throughout the year.

I am going to skip the lines this year... could use a laptop... and will probably buy it online... Everything else... wait till I find incredibly good deals around the year! Thanks FW!

I stopped going about 2 years ago. I stay up and see if anything good pops up online, but it's not worth it to me anymore.

8 or so years ago when I first started going to Black Friday, you could roll up to a store an hour or two before opening and there were maybe 30 people there, and you could pretty much be guaranteed a big pile of FAR and cheap stuff. I could hit multiple stores and still find stuff. Nowdays, you get there 11pm the night before and you are already too late. The deals are not nearly as good, and a bunch of the stores I used to go to (Circuit City, CompUSA, OfficeMax) aren't around anymore.

The past two years, I've been out of town visiting my dad. He lives in a college town in TX in the middle of nowhere. They have most of the major stores, but none of the (killer) crowds. There are still lines, but nobody is going to get crushed. I've been able to wake up at 5am, hit up 5 or 6 stores, and be done by 10am while being able to get every single bullet point on my list. It's the same story when I visit my mom, though maybe not to the same degree.

I actually enjoy Black Friday, though. It's a spectacle to behold. Capitalism at its finest. I'll probably be doing it again this year.

I've been pretty good about getting gifts online in advance, and I usually use Black Friday to fill in the gaps. While most people are starting their holiday shopping, I'm usually finishing.

I stopped going after the retards figured out what BF is. You can get deals online all year round so there is no need for BF. JMO

Spend the night wrapped in blankets in front of a store to save $100. No thanks.

nope. I like deals, but not that much

I'm definitely not. Sometimes I enjoy the rush of the day, but this year all the pre-sales have helped me complete my xmas shopping-on-a-budget way ahead of Black Friday! Kohls, JCPennys, Sears and Macys especially. Wal Mart, however as done a terrible job with living up to their discount reputation.

I am, but not until late morning. I don't care about the door busters that end at 9:00am. I'm not willing to get up early enough to catch them anyway. I do it all more for the fact that my wife enjoys it. We travel for Thanksgiving, so there's stores we can't go to at home.

It's a tradition in our house ... leftovers and booze. We call it "Fat Friday."

I make a list of items that are good. Go at about 7 am when there are no lines. If I get the things that is fine, otherwise look out for cyber monday.

I'm not getting in line this year... Really tired of the stores who only stock a few of the 'deal' items, so I really don't care anymore.

some make BF an opportunity to get rid of the bad stuff no real good deals to find but there are still good deals to find mostly by those stores that have some good deals all year round

I'm going to a few places to buy items for our Angel Tree angels. We try to get a ton of stuff for at least 5 kids. Sears has some good deals on coats and jeans so that is on my list. I will likely end up at Target as well. But it will be after the first big sweep of BF'ers. Somewhere that has deals on bikes will also get a visit. Most angels ask for bikes...

Not me. Just spent money on useful things like adding insulation to my home, and doing some long overdue painting.

If I do any shopping at all, it will be online only and if there are truly great deals on the things I need, not want.

Nowadays, people rather receive a job offer, than another useless christmas present.

Great, so we have the guy who's PO'd and going to stay home and get drunk in this corner, and the gal who's going to buy for the Angel Tree in the other corner. Do I smell a match made in heaven?

But seriously, I stopped going out when all the FAR offers went away a few years ago. But I'm getting low on massive stacks of CD's now, so I may have to do something drastic. Like pay for some.

I stopped going to BF sales a long, long time ago. I've never been a fan of crowds, and as others have said, it's not uncommon to find similar or better deals throughout the season/year. Cuddling up with DH under the warm comforter in our comfy bed, watching a movie (or sleeping!) is higher on my priority list

Okay, I still like BF. I avoid BB and WalMart-- last time I went there on BF fights were breaking out. I like Kohls, especially the down alternative comforters, towels, and good deals for clothes and toys for the kids. The other customers are nice and jovial despite the big lines.

Then I go next door to Fred Meyers which by the time I get out of Kohls has no line but they always have free doughnuts and coffee. The last few years they have had sweet potatoes on sale for 39 cents a pound. The grocery dept. is empty and the cashiers mention that it's an odd thing to buy at 5am.

Then to Walgreens which usually has a few doorbusters. Last year I got the twin boys an rc helocopter for 9.99 and they held up well. I think there were about 3 people in line.

Then to Target which usually has tv shows on DVD for cheap prices. No lines by this time.

Then to the mall where the Disney store has 20 or 30 percent off everything in the store until 11am plus quite a few other deals. It's the only time that my 6 year old girl gets Disney stuff.

I also might check out the washer / dryer deal at Sears.

So I love black Friday. Yes, I miss the FAR items and the tedium of filling out the Office Depot rebate catalog, but it's a fun day to go shopping.

Nope. Not unless a better sale than the past couple of years is offered. Good deals about 5 years ago, haven't seen much that didn't get less expensive closer to 12/25.

I used to love BF for the video card deals at CompUSA - not because they were good deals (they usually were except for the stupid rebate) but because I KNEW I was going to buy a video card on black friday and waited all year for it. When the deals came out, I could usually show up around opening time, grab one, and spend the rest of the day gaming with my new card. Thats why I was always so excited about BF.

Now, all I see is a day that brings out the absolute worst behaviors in people for a cheap laptop. No thanks.

I'm going out, only because I'll be working.

just gonna' see if i can pick up a copy of windows 7, after the my rc runs out next year
not going to wait in line though...somebody will have it online, seeing it now for $49.99

BF is a joke now. The $$ you save is not worth the time or the hassle. There are plenty of deals year round.

im going out. mainly for the tv shows and movies on dvd, which are usually still there even at 9am.

Well for me and my cousins, its tradition to spend the day at bestbuy in our tent, with our video games and out LCD playing video games and eating food. Then our parents come by drop food off and stuff. I can def afford stuff any other time, but that is why I am on fatwallet to save money so I can afford more stuff. I get to spend quality time hanging with the cousins, buy the stuff i need for great prices, and sell the extra stuff I don't need but people will pay for. Hey I am still in college, but if I ever become super rich where money is not a factor then I will stop doing this. Until then I love shopping on Black Friday. Also I always save up to buy my electronics for the year, on black Friday, unless there is a crazy deal during the year.

PS. I was out of the country for the past two years so I am really excited for black Friday this year. If it blows then I might change my mind and never go out again.

I wouldn't venture out to those stores at 4am or whate ever time even if someone paid me $1000 to. You have all the cheap, bottom of the barrel folks coming out in force. Families of them.

Have't gone in a long time and no plans to go. Inmy opinion it is purely marketting gimmick.

My decision depends greatly on the deal.

So far the items on the early BF ads didn't even match to the extremely good price that I had been getting from the deals throughout the year. And I didn't have to wait in long line compare with BF.

Previous two years we only ventured out buying live Christmas tree and poinsettia (either Home Depot or Lowes usually have good discount on them).

I stopped going on BF day like 2 years ago and I do most of my shopping online and it get to my door shipped in few days. Save on rush, watch movie and order online.

Save on gas, saves time, rest at home on a holiday. Spend time with the family than on the road or shop

With you guys all stopping, I am thinking going out this year, seriously.

I prefer to sleep past 6 am on my days off.

I have not been going for the last 2 years because of bad deals. This year I won't be going because of my employment situation...
