Greetings,

So I definitely need to buy an external drive.. and I assume a lot of other folks are looking at them too.. I'm seeking input/advice/info.. thanks..

Personally I need one as I need to backup my laptop before sending it in for service.. I only wish it was going to be easy to get a cheap laptop, to replace it while I'm waiting for it to be fixed. My laptop has a small drive (probably 160gb I think..) so even the 320gb external drive is fine for my uses.

But which ones are the best/what are the differences between them? Which ones are likely to have VERY FEW in store, and difficult if not impossible to get? etc. etc.

Following list of available data (info from bfads.net & blackfriday.info):

repost

If this is indeed a repost, please show me where the duplicate/original is.. I'm seeking input here, not trying to post all the deals. Going through a few pages here, and doing a search of this forum I was not able to find a similar posting.

Eh, thanks for the link at least.. for some reason it didnt come up in a search for HD, hard drive, etc. hmmm that thread however, just has a lot of whining about the hard drives and the deals and no discussion over 1) which will be easy or difficult to get on BF, and 2) how the drives compare to one another.

Linky

Not only HDDs, but it is easy enough to search

Eh, what am I going to be a repeating record? GroovyGeek - thanks for the link to another site, but I don't see how that site answers a single one of my questions, nor do I see why I need yet another of computer parts and prices available on BF2009 when I already have one.

How do you expect anyone here to know the answers to these questions unless they work at BB, OD, OM, WalMart, etc??

I'd avoid B&M and just get the best online deal you can find. There are lots of good deals on days other than BF -- and its possible your best deal on a HDD might be on Cyber Monday.

Why fight the crowds on BF to save $20 on a hard drive?? None of these are especially cheap. If you're not near a meijer, don't bother looking at those deals. And if you're not in the Military , you're going to have a lot of trouble buying from AAFES.

FWIW, Fry's B&M stores are offering the Toshiba 500GB portable HDD for $59.99 today.

Gives me hope that they will be surpass this price tomorrow on another HDD. But sometimes Fry's has had a couple of deals which were better on Weds. than on Fri.

Good price, especially for not having to do the BF morning thing. Unfortunately there isn't a Fry's in my state.

Bear

The WDH1CS15000N for $119.99 at Best Buy has a triple interface, eSATA / Serial ATA, FireWire / IEEE 1394, and USB 2.0. I don't think Dell has offered one this low with all the interfaces.
