Does using Bing Cashback actually cost you more?

I found a very interesting post here that shows some merchants charging quite a bit more for items if a bing cookie is found...

I was just about to post this. Interesting. Guess we'd better clear (toss?) our cookies after clicking a Bing link.

I have noticed that when I do a bing search that I don't always get the lowest prices displayed.

example 1
redirected to eBay but the first screen it shows does not list the lowest price items that were eligible. I had to click on the buy it now tab, do a sort by lowest price and then I could see lower priced items that were eligible

example 2
there was a samsung bluetooth free after rebate promotion. if I click the sellers site directly I could buy it if I went through bing that same site said the item was not available

This practice is probably illegal in some states and possibly nationally. Obviously Microsoft Bing does not want this to happen as it takes away a lot of the goodwill that they are spending so much to generate.

You just have to be smart about it. I doubt that many of us at fatwallet are going to fall for such shenanigans.

The best CashBack deals I have found were on eBay, from sellers who either didn't know about bing or didn't want to exploit it. WalMart had a few online specials that were even hotter with the 20% bing a week or so ago.
