I have never shoped erly on black friday. I want to buy something at bestbuy. the store opens at 5am. When would be a good time to get in line? I dont want to show up at 1am and wait for 3 hours before a line forms. But I dont want to show up at 1am and have to stand in the back on the line for 4 hours and not even get what I wanted.

Depending on where you live. I know at the one by me in Henderson, Nv (Las Vegas0 the lines usually form at around 6pm on thanksgiving. the first person is usually there by 12pm. I would drive by sometime in the evening on thanksgiving and see if the line is forming.

Eat your Thanksgiving dinner and they do a drive by to see the lines. In general, if you want something like a TV or laptop, go after eating your dinner. So basically you probably need to be in line starting Thursday night.

Good question. In general, it depends, but if you really want to get the Door Buster items, you may want to bring your turkey and cook it in a tent on THURSDAY afternoon, outside of BestBuy. (Start thawing the turkey today though. Stuffing optional).

Oh my god thats crazy!!!I really want to buy it but you have to sit in line for 12 hours!!! I live in valencia california, there are about 200,000 people inthis town. Anybody have direct experience with this best buy.

Want my advice? Forget it. About 5-6 years ago the crowds were manageable for a place like Best Buy. If it opened at 6, and you got there by 4 you were one of the first 10 in line. These days, people line up the day before, as in like 3pm. I realize money is tight for people, but you have to take the value of your time too into consideration. Imagine waiting even 5 hours and not getting what you came for. Most of these "deals" are no better than you could find online.

In the beginning I enjoyed the rush of it, and sometimes I do miss it, but when it started getting crazy is when I gave it up.

Very well said.

I live in Western Kentucky, and when I went to BB for Black Friday 2007, I thought I was going to be big pimpin it when I got there at 7:30 PM Thanksgiving evening. I was number 39..... Last year the first group of people started getting there at 11 AM Thanksgiving Day!! Just a side note, if you miss the door busters, you may be able to buy the ticket from someone else in the front of the line.

The one year I went, a WHOLE family of 7-9 were in front of the line and collected a bunch of the door buster tickets, then started selling them to people down the line. $50!!!! for a laptop ticket!!

I haven't been paying much attention to the doorbusters from BestBuy this year, but I can almost assure you that you could probably find it online for the same price or maybe a couple bucks more. Good luck though! I hope you get what you are looking for.

Wow, I wish I lived where you did. 10 years ago when I worked for BB there were probably 50 people lined up by midnight. Nowadays people are there early Thanksgiving morning (by say 9am). I drove by this store about 3 years ago and saw a line of about 65-70 people by 2pm on Thanksgiving.

So, I guess if you really want a shot of getting stuff, go now.

I guess a lot of these idiots don't understand time vs. money...I have enough stress working during the year. Why would I want to subject myself to the insanity during one of my days off? Black Friday is for lounging around and surfing for deals online.

1AM would be late instead of early.
You will have lots of company at 1AM at bestbuy.
Around NJ, at the Bestbuys there are thousands who line up at the BestBuys.

Just like posted earlier, plan to give up the holiday if you want to save the extra few hundred dollars over regularly found sale prices.

Some of your competition is from organized resellers.

... and the stampede and associated health risk of being the one on the floor. Some BF items can be ordered online to be shipped or picked up later now.

When they say, "brand name DVD player" for $19.99. What exactly is a brand name?

Brand Name is the brand name...

who wants to hang out with the group that goes there nowadays? --- these woun't be your typical FW geeks

Employees buy a lot of the stuff before the stores open sometimes.

this depends on the store, and at WalMart, that's completely not true. when i worked there during Juco, our loss prevention guy got fired that day for reserving some kind of popular toy for his daughter.

thats why im going to Office Depot/. hoping it wont be as crazy at a non bb/target/WalMart lol

I usually pull into the parking lot 10 min before door opens.

Drink my coffee and then make a mad dash to door as mgr is unlocking it.

Works great @ wally world where they sometimes dont do the ticket thing.

Not for the faint of heart.

P.S. Where work boots & cup if you are gonna pursue this plan.........

I just drove by the store you live near and the line is already forming. You better get going now!

I would not sit outside of a bb to get something on sale!!!!!!!! You have to ask your self how silly this looks in a sales ad. SIT OUT SIDE MY STORE FOR 12 HRS THIS FRIDAY AND YOU MIGHT GET WHAT YOU WANT AND GUESS WHAT IT WILL PROBLY BE ON SALE FOR THE SAME PRICE LATER ON IN THE SEASON SEE YOU SUCKERS SOON!!!!!!!!!!! PS.... ONLY THINGS THAT IM MARKING DOWN ARE LAST YEARS MODELS AND STUFF THAT WE DIDNT SALE LAST YEAR.

Take the best buy ad midafternoon to WalMart. They price match even on black friday. Buy same item same price midafternoon at WalMart. You do not want to go near WalMart until after lunch however.

Are you saying you think they will price match something that is not in stock? I don't believe this to be the case. Beyond the morning rush, the ad items will be out of stock, and WalMart won't price match what is not in stock, will they? It has been my experience that they will not.

walfart sucks on price matching............dont even bother trying on BF

Good luck trying a price match. You maybe able to price match things if you are in WM during the time the ad states. But if it is a doorbuster, it probably won't be matched. And, chances are, WM won't have the exact same items as BB during "blitz" hours. This saves them from having to pricematch since it has to be the exact item.

What do you want so badly to stand in the line that long for? The Best Buy ad wasnt that great. Perhaps we can help you find it somewhere else.

Is there a better deal than the Sony laptop that is on BestBuy?

"how early should I get in line?"

You should not. period. welcome to fw.

I am interested in this desktop which I picked from the desktop roundup deals on this forum. Any idea how I can get a simmilar desktop without the BF rush ?

OfficeMax
@ Compaq Presario Dual-Core Desktop w/ 3GB RAM, 500GB HD, Windows 7 $239.99

Thanks.

BestBuy: If you have no family, and nothing better to do with your valuable free time...

Perhaps all the people who lost their jobs could become professional line squatters for the savvy. Pay them a little something to line up for you.

Wal_Barf will not mach "Door Busters" or as they sometimes call them "Sales Gimmicks". I tried last year with Transfroms Blue-Ray and they wouldn't.

The deals get worse and worse each year.

Just sleep there not big deal. You can pop open a tent and bring a Haier 7 portable tv with you. enjoy. Oh ya bring a friend b/c you will need bathroom/food breaks. Cards are great thing to pass the time.

If you don't expect to be at the front of the line for the doorbuster, expect to find a similar computer in the $300s. You can find an assortment with
more powerful processors at Dell outlet.

Does this strategy still work: Purchase item at OfficeMax (wireless color laser) on Wednesday, return Friday for the Black Friday price? Is that something OfficeMac does?

Exactly!

Most folks I know are doing the same thing - Black Friday deal junkies are fools.

If 5% show up, thats a lot of people.

Yes, good thinking...that will save you from having to wait in line!

Out in NJ, almost all of the towns have less than 200,000 people and the lines are long and wrap a few times around the BB by 1AM in the morning.

kevinthecoin said: I have never shoped erly on black friday. I want to buy something at bestbuy. The idiots that used to camp out in front of CrapUSA all night for non-deals now have joined the throngs in front of BB for their non-deals. They should change the name of Black Friday to Lemming Friday...

Like I SAID, it probably DEPENDS on how big your population is vs store #s, but here locally there ain't NO trouble in finding any of the smaller items like Blu-rays, games, even many cameras LATER than Doorbuster! You can pretty much still get them ALL except these BIGGER Doorbusters like TVs, Laptops.
