I'm in dire need of a new printer. Not sure if I should pounce now or wait for President's Day sales. I can't find any sneak peeks of Officemax's P.Days sales. I haven't shopped Staples in years.
I want fax, copy, print and scan. Inkjet. Don't want ink costs to be insanely high. I've always had HP (I now have a HP2575--really old), so that's my preference, but one of my brothers has a Canon he likes, so I'm not sure what to buy.. The HP I'm eyeing (HP6500) gets poor to great reviews from cnet.com and other sites. Wondering on others' opinions of that and the HPJ4580.
Officemax has the HP6500 for $99.99. I have a $10 of $50 card they sent me in the mail, and a card for $50 maxperks BONUS Rewards when I purchase any printer (good thru 3/3). They also have the HP4580 on sale for 79.99, and I could apply the same reductions.
I'm lost because people seem to prefer Staples. But doesn't Staples offer 10% rewards on paper purchases only? I don't use reams of paper at a time. I'm also lost because I don't know if the printers I'm eyeing are reliable. Don't want the hassle of returning.
Any help for this confused person would be so appreciated. Especially if deals for Officemax will be better for P.Day. And any personal experiences with the above printers. Thanks to all...
Lexmark: For Mac,Windows FRYS.com #: 5873453 The Professional Lexmark X6675 Wireless 4-In-1 provides convenient wireless and USB connectivity, color or black faxing, one-touch copying, high-resolution color scanning and photo printing from a PictBridge-capable camera, USB flash drive or a supported memory card. Included are a flatbed scanner and an automatic document feeder. Limit 1 per Household. (when purchased between 02/05/2010 and 02/11/2010)
If you don't need color printing I strongly reccomend you get a laser printer. They don't jam, are MUCH faster and the ink/page is probably a tenth the price. Brother and lexmark actually make really good all in ones. i have the 7440 from brother and it's great.

I thought that lasers were slow to warm up. I too would like a cheap reliable printer, and BW only is perfect. I don't print much, and I'm tired of dealing with dried up cartridges that I have to dunk in water in order to clear the blockages. If a laser fits my requirements, then that would be great!
I went to Fry's yesterday to go look at printers. I ended up buying the Lexmark X6675 as stated in an earlier post. I bought this one because I was able to play around with all the ink cartridges to see what would work without a color cartridge in it. This one did, so I bought it. I also bought it because it has a 5 year warranty. Yes, I have been burned by a Brother printer. Damn things do not last, and then you are stuck with all this ink that you can't use. So, if you don't use color like me, the Lexmark X6675 would be a good buy. Don't forget to download the patch. It apparently fixes the slow boot problem.

I would say average is 20 seconds or less depending on whether it is color or mono.
I used Lexmark injets for years. I always refilled my own carts so my costs were low but I feel Lexmark has the most expensive ink carts there is.
For inkjets I suggest a 4 cart system so you only have to buy the color that is out.
It appears we prefer Staples because of the coupons. Last week we bought the Epson 610 for $34. Regular price is $200. Next week they have the Epson 810 that can be $100 final price, regularly $300. someone said it was the best printer out right now, I don't know. You can see next weeks add in a thread on here.

get a laser printer if you only need b&w. i have an older HP lj5m, first page out from a cold printer is less than 10 seconds, from a warm printer only a few seconds. i get reman toner on eBay for under 20$ shipped and its good for 8k pages. stay away from ink, very expensive. most inkjet printers will use all the colors in you just print black. i used to own my own inkjet and toner reman business.

There is no Fry's near me. I want to purchase in-store so I can easily return, even though I don't want returning the printer as an option.
