I dropped Vonage and use Voip.ms with my Locktec WP04 wifi sip phone. I spend about $8.00 a month for all inbound and outbound calls and have 3 different area codes on my account so my friends in the US and other countries can call me at no expense to them. Wish I had done it years ago.

Try 8x8.com. I called and got a line for myself and another for my daughter for $9.99 a month for 24 months after a free trial with no comittment. I had them in the past and they are as good as the others. Many neat features too. When I called I asked "Didn't you have a promotion for 9.99?" She asked if I was a customer in the past. I said I was. She said that she might be able to get it for me but she had to get it approved by her super. She called me back the next day and said it was a go. Got the units a few days later and am very happy.

I use voip.ms as well and it is cheap and works well. They have excellent support but you need to a small degree of technical sophistication to configure.
ViaTalk customer for going on 4 years now I think.
I was a 8x8 (Packet8) customer, the quality was horrible THEN. I dunno about now. But ViaTalk has a ton of features, and their UI for controlling things is great.
$199 for 2 years give or take is the offer you will find on the website alot, or you can be referred by a current customer and I think its the same offer then.
OP - do you need international calling? If so, then the thing with Vonage is the cheap international rates. Depends where you call and how much are the rates...
For example, I call one of the countries which free under the world plan. Otherwise, the rate is $0.01. My oversees call never go above $8, so I cannot justify a $10 increase in my rate (I'm on a $15 unlimited plan for life, however, I never use more than 500 minutes a month anyway)
So, what do you mean by 'better than Vonage'? Cause Vonage works fine if your internet provider is good enough...
We have Phone Power , voip.ms and Future 9 for our home-based business, personal use. They are all reliable, with excellent sound quality and support.
There are lots of VoIP options out there, at different price points, with a wide range of features. There are no one-size fits all solutions out there, so do some research on sites like www.dslreports.com, which has tons of reviews and forum threads on the subject, and avoid the Ooma and Magicjack hype - unless they meet your requirements.
