I am excited about this. Do you think something like a Black Friday will happen in those states?

IOW: Cash For Appliances.

Got to love Kansas. They handed out vouchers $800 to people making 75% of the medium income level just to buy new washers and dryers, and $700 for new fridges. Rather than give out rebates, they gave out free appliances for the poor -- but never announced the program until it was all over.

Dang! Just got a fridge 2 months back.

I acutally don't mind this program as much as cash for clunkers b/c older appliances can really be inefficient. There could be some big potential energy (and water) savings in encouraging people to upgrade.

But, it's the same old story about what to do with the old machines ... landfill.

This is nothing but giveaway to the manufacturers disguised as "feel good, save the earth" program. Just like cash for clunkers was.

Where the tea party? Most of these appliances are made in CHINA!

whirlpool is moving a couple of hundred jobs from southern indiana to mexico shortly............

Indiana says max credit is $100 and they really deviate from the federal list. (in.gov is where if found the list for us)I really was hoping for stoves to be part of the program, but no such luck. I know I'm losing a lot of gas with ours. I bake for 30 minutes and the temp in the next room goes up 5-10 degrees. Oh well, this is no different than last deal. Hey buy a washer.....I already bought one.........hey buy a new heating system(wood burners included).........I already bought one. We're either a year too early replacing dead appliances or they are a year too late.

TY OP for the heads up, though.

Here's the link for Texas' program...

Love the savings, but gotta wonder about actual benefits to economy ...

That makes me wonder if I ever got the energy rebate for the new fridge we got last year... But if you have an old fridge to new ones will save electricity. We went from a 20 year-old GE side-by-side which used about 5 KWHr/day (measured over long period of time) to a similar LG model that uses 2 KWHr/day, a savings of 1,000 KWHr/yr (or over $250/year at Calif's high rates).

Hopefully this will work out a bit better than the infamous cash for clunkers program...
