I'm getting some new toys next Tuesday and I need HDMI cables and some audio stuff. I generally buy stuff like that from monoprice.com. The site has been down since Saturday morning and was supposed to return today. It's still not back up, although it's supposed to be soon, and they say they may not be able to take orders yet when it does return. So, since I need the stuff by early next week, does anyone know a comparable site for my cable needs?

Thanks

Firefold.com isn't bad. If you aren't looking for anything too fancy, Meritline is cheap but I'm not sure if shipping would be fast enough.

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked out Meritline earlier and for what I'm looking at the price wasn't great. Firefold.com looks good, but I'll need to contact them since one of their product descriptions is missing info that I need.

Nevermind....

i like http://www.monoprice.com/ and http://www.cablesforless.com/

monoprice is the best, until they were hacked this past friday and anyone who ordered in the past 2 weeks has gotten their cc stolen. Monoprice has not notified any users of this. The customers have figured this out on our own. For info see here www.facebook.com/monopricecom

They haven't admitted to it yet, but they've discussed it on twitter. I'm glad I wasn't able to make my purchase on Friday. I actually had everything in my cart but I was too lazy to go get my credit card. I figured there wasn't much difference between ordering on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

And FWIW I just ordered my stuff from Firefold.com. It should ship out today and I even found a 10% off code at retailmenot. After that it was only slightly more expensive than monoprice. Well worth the time I saved not having to deal with my bank.

Oh, crap. I'm glad I checked into this thread. I order something last week. I must check my online statement.

Monoprice has always been great for the stuff I wanted, cables and mounts and I'm not giving up on them. The same mount I was about to buy for $130 was at monoprice for $40, so I'm a fan. I was about to order some stuff last week and I'm glad I didn't. I know their site has be down for the last few day for "upgrades", and today it the first day it's back up and reads the following:

"A few of our customers recently reported to us that information from credit cards they used on the Monoprice website had been misused. We promptly began an investigation with the help of expert computer forensic investigators to determine if any card data had been stolen from our computers.

To date, the investigators have found no evidence that card information has been stolen from Monoprice’s computer network. As a precaution to ensure that our customers’ information is not at risk, we have taken our website offline temporarily while we and our investigators complete the audit of our computer network.

We want to ensure that there is no security vulnerability in any part of our computer network system. We notified local and federal law enforcement agencies, our credit card processing business partners, and all credit card companies that some of our customers reported concerns regarding their card information to us.

We also advised these entities that we are working with outside security specialists to determine if there was breach of our computer system. We will post additional information when it is available. We regret any inconvenience that our investigation and the temporary suspension of the Monoprice website may have caused you. Thank you so much for your great support."

I still say Monoprice is the place to buy all your cables. To blame them when they use industry standards for security (SSL) is unfair... pretty much everyone gets hacked. This doesn't seem like their fault.
That being said, I'm glad I used PayPal last month on my last purchase from them.

pchcables.com -- used them for years......

another one for.....www.monoprice.com....fast shipping also

Uhhhhh... Duhhhhhhhhh

Did you not read the first post that clearly states that Monoprice's website is down and the OP is looking for an alternative to Monoprice?

In fact, the website is now saying it will be down for server maintenance until "Tuesday March 15 [sic]."

Alternative to MonoPrice.com: http://stores.ebay.com/Monoprice-Com

I like this place.
It is not as cheap as monoprice but they have nice cables.

lets see i got my hdmi cables at Amazon for a buck or two. all the local stores wanted 10 times that much. I think it was really eforcity. but buying through Amazon was much cheaper.

eforcecity has some really nice HDMI cables cheap.

I have used monoprice extensively but I have had issues with a few cables. Higher quality, especially HDMI, cables are available from http://www.bluejeanscable.com/. Highly recommended.

Monoprice... good price and good support (their support staff answer you without any standard cut and paste reply).

Rediculously Cheap, but works fine, stuff on eBay from (and mailed from) Hong Kong ect. Otherwise Meritline.com .

http://www.riteav.com/

Used them a bunch. Ship fast, and often cheaper than monoprice.

I am glad I used Paypal too. I usually use CC but somehow chose Paypal that time.

I thought this was excellent advice and I bid on three buy-it-now auctions for a pair of short HDMI cables and a USB extension cable. The auction listings say that they will combine shipping on multiple auction purchases. Total price for my three cables was around $7.50. Here's how they "combined" the shipping:

$ 2.83 full shipping price for cable 1
$ 2.90 full shipping price for cable 2
+$ 5.84 full shipping price for cable 3
$11.57 "combined" shipping price

I e-mailed them and asked them to recalculate the shipping and send me a new invoice, given that the S&H for this order if I had been able to place it through their website would have been around $6-7.

DealExtreme.com has worked just fine for me
