Considering how many FW Hot Deals are posted about Monoprice, I figured this deserves to be in Hot Deals. Check your credit cards to make sure.

Monprice.com said: A few of our customers recently reported to us that information from credit cards they used on the Monoprice website had been misused. We promptly began an investigation with the help of expert computer forensic investigators to determine if any card data had been stolen from our computers. To date, the investigators have found no evidence that card information has been stolen from Monoprice’s computer network. As a precaution to ensure that our customers’ information is not at risk, we have taken our website offline temporarily while we and our investigators complete the audit of our computer network. We want to ensure that there is no security vulnerability in any part of our computer network system. We notified local and federal law enforcement agencies, our credit card processing business partners, and all credit card companies that some of our customers reported concerns regarding their card information to us. We also advised these entities that we are working with outside security specialists to determine if there was breach of our computer system. We will post additional information when it is available. We regret any inconvenience that our investigation and the temporary suspension of the Monoprice website may have caused you. Thank you so much for your great support. Not a Hot Deal. Reported to mods.

not a hot deal for you, but it is a hot deal for us hackers
lol

That is why you should buy monster cable for $100 from Best Buy

As much as I hate to use paypal for anything but eBay, this is one instance where it would have helpful. Google checkout rules!

I've already got 2-3 credit report protection subscriptions from other companies who have lost my info; who cares.

[SARCASM]Yup, cuz Best Buy doesn't get hacked [/SARCASM]

Hmm. I bought an LCD mount for my lg there about a month ago, but I'll keep an eye on it.

They should have gone with the Cybertrust security seal instead of VeriSign.

If you dont want to read it, just move along. Nobody will be upset.

Haha! I just bought a Mini Display to HDMI adapter from these guys. That's why I ALWAYS use secure card numbers on the net. I'll sleep well tonight.

As a matter of fact, I recently made a purchase on monoprice about 2 months ago. I used my bank debit card to make my purchase. I recently checked my statement on the same account and I noticed 4 charges that were fraudulent. I'm not saying that its monoprice's fault for these fraudulent transactions. I'm just saying that this post is very conincidental. I don't believe I will be using monoprice again. Thank you for this post.
These are the charges made on through my bank account.

A good example of why not to use a debit card for online purchases! I'd rather have credit tied up, than my own money!

all this hassle for a PAIR OF High-Quality Copper Speaker Banana Plugs (Closed Screw Type)

Ah ha. PenFed called me about a strange charge on my card last week, I didn't recognize it and had my card canceled. I've bought from monoprice in the past with that card. How shitty, I was a happy monoprice customer too.

Yeah but you know what, big companies get hacked too. Its not like we all wouldn't buy from TJ Maxx right? I mean stuff happens, and thats why its good that credit cards are reliable for not making us liable for fraudulent charges.

Think of all the $$$ monoprice has saved us -- is that $$$ worth this small hassle of replacing your card? I think so!

There are two ways to look at it - one would be that they screwed up enough to get hacked, so maybe that means they are lax in their practices and it will happen again. Or, now that they have been hit, they know they need to make security a priority, so it may be much less likely they will get hit again in the future.

I just went to monoprice.com yesterday to buy some HDMI cables and noticed this message. Too bad...

I was just notified by my CC company that I was a victim of fraud. I just purchased from Monoprice last week. The amount they attempted to charge still didn't add up to the amount of money I saved, but it is unfortunate. My bank will reimburse the charges that did go through and send me a new card. I hope Monoprice learned a lesson and ups their security. Honestly, this won't stop me from buying from their site again. I will admit, it will have to be for a significant savings.

Think I always pay via paypal.....

Dil

My CC was compromised. Darn Rep at Chase Visa didn't know crap. He just told me about a $1.00 charge from Rite-Aid. I wasn't sure and ask him where it was from and he didn't tell me. Weird.
I called back after I checked the $1.00 charge. There were 2 other attempted charges made($84 and $0.84). All 3 charges were out of state. The first rep should have told me about the other 2 attempted charges.
Now they will reissue my CC.

This is FW, right? Using a debit card - fail. Using a real credit card number - another fail. Using PayPal - good luck with chargebacks. Anybody ever heard of virtual account numbers? I have not used a real number for online purchase in several years.

Got me
No email from Monoprice
Pissssssssed

You can still order from them through their ėBay store using PayPal, which should be safe.

same here ordered last day of feb. and today card company called me on two chargers they stopped and now i have to get new card. they were hacked not possibly as they say and no email either. i,am pissed at them.

I haven't ordered from them since Nov and I'm not hacked (I HOPE) so I will assume the virus was placed on their servers in Feb.

And I get a message from AMEX...sorry but your account show's some fraud charges.../sigh

My last order was in Jan. 20 and I just got a bunch of charges on my card.

Wow so that's what happened. My bank cut my card off because of suspicious activity. I checked my purchase history and there were all these nominal charges that I didn't make from iTunes, Proactive, and Tiger Direct.

Crappy thing is that the CC companies will just take it as a loss because it'll cost too much to investigate.

Damn, I order from monoprice two weeks ago and the credit company call me that there are susipicious activity and verfity some charges on my credit card. There were three unauthorized charges and some didn't go through, the theif try to make some charges.

woke up this morning with 5 pending charges for jcrew and Guess.com! called them both and orders were already cancelled. thank goodness. products were being shipped to cottonwood, az.

thanks for the info btw op.

If your CC has been breached PLEASE file a complaint here...

http://ag.ca.gov/contact/complaint_form.php?cmplt=CL

Its the CA attorney general office. If they get enough they will look into Monoprice and force them to conform to SB20, its the CA notification law in CA.

Why are they keeping your CC info on file anyway?

Skipping 2 Messages...

Look likew they are trying to say it was only between 2-23-10 and 3-5-10

That is bullsh1t. My order was placed on 2-12 and my CC was used.

So be warned monoprice is still not telling the truth.
