"Personal Internet Viewer"? This thing does not even have a web browser, although it looks as if one could have been implemented.
On top of that, what happens when this device is discontinued and loses support from Sony? Are third parties allowed to develop widgets, or are you simply screwed when you want to access new services?
This product is clearly another Sony bust. Within a short time woot will be blowing these out for 40.00 or less. Is there really a need in the marketplace for something like this? I dont think so. At $200.00 its a total joke. $129 for something like this?
You know, this is another one of those products I held in my hand at Best Buy that I kept telling myself I had to have. It sounds really cool and looks cool. But then I realized like everyone else.. it would be an alarm clock sitting next to the bed. I remember telling myself I'd pay $50 for it. $129.99 is an attractive price when you look around at everyones $200 price tag but still... for me it would be a $129.99 alarm clock.

Oh get the hell otta here! I didn't know that. See now think about it.. its gonna have to sit somewhere where most likely you would have your laptop anyway.

Yeah, this looks like a fancy programmable alarm clock/radio. I'll take it for $40 when Woot dishes them out tho. But at this price, I won't bite.
Sony still alive without this product. So, prepare for end of life product soon. I got one of Sony PDA long time ago. But soon after a got it, they stop support and no way I can get update on the software.
Just my thought.

Another stupid and EXPENSIVE product. Kids got me this for father's day for $230. Few months later price is cut in half. It is a glorified alarm nothing else.

it really does look that way. I keep trying to think of reasons to buy this: (a) 7" Netflix viewer (won't disturb wife, and for use when I can't sleep) (b) cool mp3 alarm clocks (c) access email from bed - but like people said - I see it's price point around $50.
Other than Netflix - doesn't seem to have any killer apps for it that would make me want to splurge. Does anyone know of any worthwhile apps for this?
Who inventes these type of BS device in first place. Lopoks lik eit is good for nothing. For that much $, I would rather get a used/refurb netbook which will come with a full browser/battery/1 million possible "apps".

So true. You can get a refurb netbook for under $150 nowaday. This product just doesn't make any sense. I suppose many to put in the bathroom while your in the can or in the kitchen while you're chopping things...but who the hell spend money on R&D on something like this?

I wonder how many of these they have actually sold and the brain behind this product is still actually employed. I can understand the Dash, but the Streak is a very capable Android phone that is large enough to actually read eBooks on, and small enough to still use as a phone. Why the hate, unless you just have an aversion to Dell.

Don't know where they purchased this for $230 but the retail on it is $199.99 and I've watched this when it first came out and has been around 180-200 at first. Just recently dropped a month ago at Newegg to 150 and now 130.

I cannot think of another portable hand held device that does not come without a battery. I was shocked when I came across the fact since I was going about to buy it and hence wanted to alert the folks here . Even an alarm clock allows battery back up. So this is not a glorifed alarm clock. The genius minds that came up with that idea needs to be fired. I seriously wonder what ran thru their minds when they designed it and how this got approval from the bosses.
Ipad is not a lot of things, but it is definitely user friendly, which is why it is doing great.

I have a deal with my family. No gifts on father's day. (Beneficiary should be me, not some electronics store/company.)
Does anyone have any idea on the speaker quality? I've been looking for something that has great alarm functions, can play music at an adequate volume without sounding like crap, and all the widgety goodness of chumby. Logitech's seem nice audio wise but it has a tiny screen.
As far as it being overpriced, are there any other better alternatives? and ipod dock system (would need to purchase an ipod touch) can run upwards of 120$ sure, a netbook is fine but no touchscreen and not really adequate as a bedside 'fancy' alarm/entertainment
Here's my 2 cents. I owned a chumby and chumby one and I did purchase this item when it was $150.00. I have to say that I definitely like the Sony Dash over the prior two. It has a better look, feel and operates in my opinion better because you can have multiple items on one screen (time, facebook, weather, etc). I think people that are dogging this have never even tried it out or have one. For $130, I think it is worth it in comparison to the chumby price. This isn't an ipad or tablet so people stop comparing this. It does exactly what it claims to do. As far as the backup battery, it doesn't matter because it gets it time from your wireless network and all the settings for apps are stored within your online account so you people talking about a battery don't know what you are talking about. If you like a fancy clock with internet capabilities (weather, facebook and other apps) than I say go for it. I'm considering buying another for the kitchen.

How can you watch Netflix movies on it? The Chumby widget only lets you modify or look at your queue and movie descriptions not the actual streaming.

This is absolutely ideal to use while working out on a treadmill. Streaming Netflix on a treadmill? I will easily pay $130 for that without thinking twice. SOLD.
I reallllllly want to like this product but I just can't see myself shelling out $130 when I have a netbook that will do the same thing. Maybe at $100 bucks I would budge but it has no mobility with the whole no battery issue.
