I tried blending an iphone in the vita-max, the blendtec does a better job IMHO

I have used both and prefer the Vitamix.

Nice find OP! I am definitely in for one, I've been wanting to pull the trigger on one of these for awhile but just did not want to spend the money one because of the price......
Anyone know how this model differs from the 5200 (which Vitamix itself sells for as "little" as $379 (refurbed)) ?
I have a 5200 and I use it every day. I got it refurbed from Vitamix direct. It was "as new" and continues to be great for over a year now. It's insane that these blenders command these prices. I only bought it cause I just felt like at that price it had better please and perform or I would have absolutely zero qualms about demanding service or a refund. On the age old question Blendtec or Vitamix, for me personally I felt like the Vitamix "analog" controls provide more control and feel than the Blendtec "digital" automatic. Sometimes "old school" just does the job better.

I signed up for the Macy's card but didn't see the 15% off...? Hoping I have to wait to see it on my credit card statement. If I do in fact get the 15% off this is an incredibly hot deal. These blenders don't go on sale often, especially at $250 off retail price!
Wow, smoking hot deal. I have the 5200 and love it -- I would not hesitate for a second to recommend this to anyone who likes to eat whole foods in smoothie form or any of a thousand other uses for this machine.

That's a good question. It's not available in any stores around me and the button is grey instead of the red one's as a option, so I think it's a online thing only. Great deal OP, thanks for the call. I'm in 4 1.
Great price. My parents bought 1 at Costco during a demo, I believe at 499. Love it. Makes sorbet easily. All the reviews say these last FOREVER. Blendtec and others start to leak after a few year according to reviews.

Bought one with new Macy card. Macy's price is always higher than others but with the discounts it's a great price.

Furthermore, I called the apply by phone number before proceeding to make sure the 15% off is applicable to the Vita Mix. I was informed the credit is valid & it will appear on the first statement.

No offense; but, this must be something you don't do often. If you make a lot of smoothies or even go to vitamix.com, you can see a ton of things you can do with it. I use mine almost daily <have the 5000> for about seven years or so now. I would have paid much more for my vitamix. It is a great deal compared to how many blenders I frequently burnt out until I got one.
It is amazing the power it has. Cleanup is a breeze. I just can't say enough great things about Vitamix.
polishdreamer said: $450 for a blender is alot, just for the record. I agree, but after seeing what it can do (my parent got it 6 months ago), I think it's worth it. First, it practically lasts forever. And once yoi have one, you wont be buying those $4 smoothies again. It blends like no other machine can and can make delicious and healthy smoothies out of almost anything. However, I admit it is more practical to have one only if you're into healthy diets. No point getting one if you don't care about making fruit and veg smoothies at least a few times a wk.

You can also make those Blended(Slush/Icy) Coffee Drinks or Cocktails, like a Margarita Slushy

I did this a year or so ago and mine was for all intents and purposes, NEW.
I suspect Vitamix actually offers these "refurbs" (which they mysterously have an endless supply of) because they don't want to cave in on their retail price valuation and "prestige". Selling "refurbs" gets them many more sales I'll bet from those who hesitate to spend this much on a blender. Even at $379 these are outrageiously high priced. Hell, you could buy a washing machine for this kind of money But if you use a blender and prefer not to mess around, this one does the job and it's a pleasure to use. Oh yeah, and FYI they are LOUD ! REALLY REALLY LOUD

You actually could get a better model cheaper brand new with this deal.
polishdreamer said: $450 for a blender is alot, just for the record. Not really. By the time your Vita-Mix wears out, you will most likely have spent $450 or more on cheap blenders that break after 1-2 years of heavy use. And then, you just send your Vita-Mix in for repair and it's good for another 7-10 years. Amortized out, you'll spend a lot less on blenders by making a larger up-front purchase with a Vita-Mix than you will by purchasing a lot of $50-100+ blenders from the major appliance companies. There is a reason that bars, restaurants, smoothie joints, coffee shops, etc use these blenders and not the cheap ones.

Well, that might be part of it but they had a problem with one of their components that has yet to be straightened out (and has caused a lot of returns over the past couple years). I used to work for the supplier of that component... The problem wasn't THAT noticable, but for a $600 blender, some people took notice! Many of them basically had no vairable speed control. You got a lower speed and instead of true analog speed control, you got the same speed and then BAM you got a big speed increase - but they still would work. It was a mess, but the nice thing about VItamix is that they will honor the warranty and still make a mint off of the refurbs. They're a great buy.

If you use your blender everyday, $450 for a blender that will last a life time, hold its value relatively well, and out perform anything on the market isn't all that bad.
You gotta take into consideration, many people will use this more often than they use their stove. I wish I had the money to invest in one of these or a Blendtec. I use my blender daily to basically liquify a days intake of vegetables to supplement my regular diet. I have a $150, highly rated blender and what I get is very pulpy. If I had a Vitamix, I'd be drinking juice instead of juice with veggie sludge.
Also take into consideration, you can actually mill your own flour (even make rice flour) with these blenders. It's a lot more than a smoothie machine.
For what it's worth, I have had my VitaMix for 11 years now and it still works great. The only thing I've done is buy smaller containers for smaller quantities. The 64oz pitchers make it hard to fit under most cabinets.
EDIT: Note that these easily run $200 on eBay in used condition, if that's any sign of retained value/quality.
My typical veggie blend: 1 small apple, handful of the baby carrots, a stick of celery, piece of ginger, frozen leaf spinach, a little water and blend. Takes a little to get used to it. I used to add frozen fruit for sweetness, but gradually decreased as I learned to like the taste/consistency. Sometimes adding a little almond. adds some body/protein/fat.
$499 at the Costco demo's. $349 for refurbs on the Vita-Mix site. Vita-Mix refurbs come with insanely long warranties as well.

Well it looks like I'm going with the $379 and free shipping as this deal is back to full price.

Picked up the 5200 at a Costco demo last month for $395 + tax. Oddly enough, that was the first time I saw a Vita-Mix at Costco; I had seen the Blendtec demo a couple of times before.
peanutty said: i do have one recipe question though: when you mix in fruits, like an apple, do you guys blend the entire thing including the core with seeds?
EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! ALL OF IT!!!!!!! I will was the apple, carrot, cabbage, beet, celery first. Most everything is just whole. You can cut the core and the seeds; but, I don't.
Oranges, I usually use seedless; but, I do take the outer edge of the rind off and leave a lot of the *white*.
