Smoking deal! Sadly, they won't substitute 10 rd mags for us who live in the PRK, so they ship them with no mags. For those who live in free states, however, this is awesome - the XD is a rock solid handgun.

Fantastic price for this firearm. Not a bad gun either.

But you will get the extra 3 mags from Springfield ( Low cap Or Hi Cap )
Never purchased a gun online. How do you provide a FFL?

You have to have it shipped to a local gun shop, who will transfer it to you, usually for a nominal fee. Check with local shops to make sure they will work with you, before making a purchase.

You need to talk to your local FFL and ask if they accept transfers then get their information (address, phone, fax if applicable) Then when you check out you tell the online place where you are having them ship too and they can talk to each other to verify license (it's an online super easy process for them)
They ship, your FFL calls you, you pay the transfer fee and do whatever necessary paperwork for transfer then you go home with a new or new to you gun.
You also avoid sales tax (until you add it to your end of year taxes of course

How would this 9mm compare to one of the 3rd gen Smith pre-owned deals that's been posted here?

I was at the store on Friday. There were 70+ customers packed into the store area (about 500 square feet). They were taking names at the door for the waiting list to talk to a salesman. After waiting in line for a salesman I had to wait in another line for them to do a background check and then another line to pay for my new pistol. I got a peek into the warehouse - huge area with Stacks and Stacks of boxes. I talked to one of the owners?/employees in the background check area. He acted like he did not know they were listed on Fat Wallet. He said they were always busy the day after Thanksgiving but nothing like this. I told him he could thank the Fat Wallet effect for the extra business.

The capacity is not listed so I would assume 12 rounds unless you like in a restricted state. From the form, "All receipts must be received by December 31, 2011."

Nice story....and I love fatwallet too..but that is extremely unlikely to be the main cause for a B+M store.
Simple economics for this one: overall increased consumer market demand + good retail prices = high sales volume.

I was there yesterday too. I came at 10 am and it was too crowded and came back later. My buddy and I got the last 2 XDs about 6 pm. One of the employees told me in the store alone (not Internet), they sold over 1,000 ARs. Wow.

I don't know about that. This place is in a lightly traveled area off of the Interstate in a somewhat sketchy (but improving) area. No other retail type businesses nearby. One guy in line behind me mentioned he drove over 100 miles from Georgetown, SC after seeing the listing on Fat Wallet.

How would the Springfield XD 9mm compare to a Smith and Wesson 5906, or a similar S&W? A deal for the 5906 was posted here, and it's even cheaper now. People say it's a bit big and heavy but there are similar models that are lighter and/or smaller that might not cost much more.

@jbright00 HERE is the linky to the ATF its a complicated process. Having said that I'm having this gun shipped to my local bass pro shop they charge $30.00 for the transfer fee! Thats cheap compared to $75.00 at Gander Mountain!!! This gun is well over $500 at the gun shops by me!! Thanks BB

No need to become an FFL yourself to order a gun online. Firearms ship to FFLs not you directly.
1) Find a local FFL (http://www.gunbroker.com/FFL/DealerNetwork.aspx) 2) Contact him or her 3) He or she will fax their FFL form to the vendor proving an active FFL 4) Vendor will ship firearm to FFL 5) You meet FFL to fill out the paper work and pay a fee (if applicable) 6) You now own the firearm
Now back on topic: I received my 3 promo mags and holder from Springfield on Friday after turkey day. Only took 2 weeks!

It would be a smokin deal if these were the XDM for $349. Still not bad at all.
