I am going to RED the next OP who puts FREE for a 100% back in Staples rewards item. I think this discussion has exhausted itself already.

From what you've said, I'll bet if you buy some of those Free After Rewards Duracells, when you get the money back in the form of Rewards, you go out and spend the Rewards as if what you buy is free.Hey, if trillion-dollar financial institutions can do it (with bundled derivatives), so can we!

edit 1: confirmed with long-time sta_ples employee that rewards are to be treated as coupons, and the only times they get treated as a gift card is when the cashier is in error.
The rewards ARE treated as coupons, but you can combine them with any other coupon (15%, $10 off $50, etc.).

Of course I understand, and I understood, oneyInMyWallet. My point was about the free-after-rebate Duracells. Don't buy them, get the rewards, spend the rewards on a non-rebate item, and consider them both free.
Obviously, if there are FAR items available N times, you can make N free purchases, and it doesn't in any way rely on some "cascading" notion of one reward making the next FAR item free. You can pay with cash each time, and every item is Free After Rebate. You do have to have a target for all those rewards, of course, but decent deals for things I want pop up now and then.
If the only items you would ever buy at Staplez are FAR, then your point is well-taken.

Just like it says in the email. IIRC Staples used to use the term FREE in their weekly ads but they no longer do so. "100% back in Staples Rewards on the Skullcandy Jib Earbuds" will do. If you notice, the thread for the 4GB thumb drive is titled "100% back in Staples Rewards on the Staples 4GB Micro Relay USB flash drive $5.99 Staples B&M only thru 12/24". There was no discussion of "free" because it was not the the title or OP.
ETA: I have to laugh tho at the school marms who have an issue with free though. Got an email today that is titled "FREE Breakfast starts Monday!". Then of course there is the kicker using an asterisk, "with the purchase of second breakfast of equal or greater value plus two beverages".

Make the most of your money by purchasing something you MUST buy.
For a family of five, I normally just go ahead and use my Rewards checks on: Toilet Paper Paper Towels
Im checking now to see how the prices are on bleach, sponges, ...other stuff that might be considered 'breakroom supplies' but that I'd be paying just as much ore more for in store.
I got my pair today,I REALLY needed a pair. I was about to break down and hit up the nearest store, and pay double!
I have Premier so I can wait for a good deal on some of those basics, order online painlessly.
The cashier gave me the coupon back as well. Said it was still usable for as long as the promotion is going. Said I could buy 10 if I wanted. LOL

People are idiots sometimes. This is a great deal if you can use the earphones and the rewards, which I always find a use for. Thanks OP!
Bought one today. Anyway a couple of notes: the picture of the earbuds on the coupon look like a slightly different set of buds (I think they are showing the "Ink'd" model on the coupon). No big deal, but they look a bit different. I also notice the Skullycandy website does not even really mention the existance of the "Jib" model. It is packaged in a very basic small "blister" pack. Here is a more representative photo:

just bought green colored one from Staples in 42nd street and avenue of america. great item, and my son took it away from me right away. Can't buy another one because they offer only 1 rebate per household....

100% back in rewards. Not a rebate.
The terms on the coupon states "Limit one per customer". I wouldn't push it.

I got one this morning. Used the coupon and gave my stples reward number.
Do I need to do anything else to get the rebate/rewards back? Like register it at stpales rewards dot com?

There is an advantage to registering online, you can get your rewards check digitally, so it comes a little earlier

Sign up your wife/son for Staples rewards, and go get another pair (register Staples Rewards under their name of course).
My bad about my comment earlier, I should have said you can use Rewards to pay for 100% back in Rewards items, but you shouldn't (not can't, sorry) because you won't get anything back in rewards. I thought the context was implied, but I guess I wasn't clear.

But it's never a good idea to do so because they could change back.

My purchase has posted to rewards account. However, I did not earn rewards for the item. I guess I will call next week. Anybody else have the same problem?

Mine weren't there either. I was originally wondering if it's because we also bought the Toshiba HD and used a $20 off coupon on the same transaction. So the way Staples plays coupons, they spread them across all items on the receipt, the Skullcandy earbuds look like they were only $7.77, not the same as the $9.99 deal. But since others are having the same problem, maybe it's systemic.
I also figure I will have to call them to get the full $9.99 back because of the way the HD coupon was spread. If/when it resolves automatically, it will probably only credit me $7.77.

it looks like some error with coupon. Most of the times these coupons ring up as a penny, but don't take anything off the price of the item. For some reason my receipt shows that the coupon took $0.01 off the price of the earbuds. So as far as the computer is concerned, this coupon has been applied. Just a guess based on comparing this 100% rewards to others. I trust they will get it straightened out once people start complaining

FWIW, my Saturday purchase is also broken. I contacted CS via chat and got this response:
"We apologize, we have just been notified of this issue and are currently working to resolve the problem. We do not have an estimated time of resolution at this time. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience."
mine wasnt posting either for the jib, eventhough the batteries on the same purchase did. called Staples Rewards hotline and it sounded like it was a system error because she had just taken a lot of calls for the same thing. a $10 rewards coupon is being mailed out to me in the mail, not email, so im not sure if they will proactively do that for everyone or only those that call....
