At least, I don't see a way to redeem TYP for Expedia travel anymore, much less discountedExpedia travel.
All I see is: * Vounchers for Avis, Marriott, etc in the 80-100% range * A ghetto airfare booking tool powered by "Connexions Loyalty Travel Solutions" that blacks out everything. For instance, I just looked to see if they had anything available from JFK -> LAX on some innocuous Wednesday in March -- nope.

I don't see a problem searching for JFK-LAX , from 3/14. 22,300pts for non-stop on AA, plus 5 other airlines that ranges to 22,601pts, return a week later. I myself just booked DFW-CUN for May 26 on AA, cost me a whopping 88,280pts for 2 tickets that would otherwise cost $1,174, the flights available when I looked in any flight search engine, they are all there in the TY flight search engine. (I should have booked this a month ago when it was 20k pts cheaper, ughh!) Also after checkout, I logged in my AA account, my flight showed up there and I was able to pick my seat assignment. So I don't think it's a ghetto system they use.

Even so, when playing with your examples, I never saw any flights that were cheaper than 100TYP == $1. Guess I'll cash out at Amazon, and stick to whoring mileage cards for travel discounts.

I have a question about gift card redemptions - when are we supposed to get them? I've never redeemed a gift card with citibank before. I've been deducted 9000 points, but I don't have any email or notification when I'm going to get my Amazon e-code. Any have a estimate of time - maybe 4-6 weeks?
You should get the code for gift credit redemption almost instantaneously after you submitted your order. Keep an eye out for those emails, especially if you have junk mail filter.

Just as an FYI for those that seem to be happy to see Amazon gift cards offered, you could always get Amazon gift cards with only a slight bit of work. Just cash in for Best Buy gift card and use the Best Buy gift card to buy Amazon Kindle Gift card for an even exchange. Amazon Kindle gift cards are good for anything on Amazon, not just Kindle related stuff. Won't matter if they keep Amazon gift cards, but if they ever take it away, you have options.

Not a bad deal, but agree with previous posters, travel redemption is the best deal. 9000 points gets you $100 of Amazon, or $120 in plane tickets. The engine is just a little bit clunky, but whenever I've searched, I see the same baseline fare on the TY points engine as on kayak or the airline's site, and you get 1.33 cents/point for travel redemptions.
Since I have the Citi Forward card, I get 5 points/$ at Amazon, so the gift cards are particularly unattractive.

$100 gift card isn't even showing now - logged on to get it, gave an error, then when I reloaded the page there is no $100 entry anymore. Just $50 for 6000 points (bleh).
