Verified - works great in for one

hot deal on this. if you can stack both its $55.

Confirmed that it does work with the coupon code stacked with the e-junkie coupon. My total, delivered, with tax was $58.70.

Ordered the USB 2.0 version yesterday and it already arrived!

It seemed the 2TB alive again, stack with coupon, rewards and reward check for a final price (43.99 + 1.25 + 8 + Tax) $56.87

Thank you!

Subtotal: $99.99
Coupons: -$45.00
Tax: $3.30
Delivery: $0.00
Total: $58.29

Thanks OP! Been wanting a drive and by stacking coupons got it for 59.72.

Anyone know what type of HD is inside it? Is it easily removed?

I think opening it up will void the warranty so think carefully about that people. Hard drives seem so unreliable I almost expect them to crash eventually. I've had several different hard drives go bad on me (not any particular brand).

Yes, you can also use that code on the 2TB version of this drive. The code brings it down to $109.99. You can also use the $25 off coupon as well bringing it to $84.99 which isn't bad for a 2TB drive.

2TB is oos online again? I'm seeing "Low Stock" in one store. Is the 14555 a physical coupon or just quote a code to the cashier?

You should be able to stack extra 25% rewards coupon,
expires today Coupon Code: 32484

The 25% SR code I'm seeing is 57427, excludes computers but not HDs. Is 32484 different?

=aw

Thanks OP snagged one for $60.12 after e junkie coupon purchase

do these need a separate power supply or does connecting USB to the pc power them? thanks

I'm still stinging from Seagate after Seagate failure over the past few years.
Is this portable a break in the quality trend?

External power supply. No e-sata.

Anyone know if I can turn it into an internal drive?

Open the 2TB external drive up and it's a Seagate - ST2000DL001 inside.

Don't bother to use the coupon/SR code in store. Chances are they won't have any in stock if they do, they won't accept the coupon and they will require to verify your SR (if you are using the 25% coupon). At least this was what happen to me in Edison, NJ. I order mine online + coupon ($20) + e-junkie 25off75 + link through discover for another 5% CB.

Say what? Of course they will accept both coupons in store, and of course you will need to ( and want to) verify yor Staples Rewards because unless they have your rewards number, how are they supposed to credit you the 25% in rewards? I did this yesterday, no problems at all

the point is moot now, as that 25% SR coupon has expired, but thought i should attempt to clear-up the misinformation

This is not a portable one. Quite demotivating to buy a external disc to be plugged with a power source.

IIRC i think i once read or heard that a 2.5" drive can be powered by USB, but a 3.5" drive needs more power and has to be plugged in.

sorry for the lame question but this is backwards compatible with usb 2.0 do I need a special cable or can I use the usb 3.0 cable that's included with the HD?
Thanks

Yes, you can use a USB 3.0 drive with USB 2.0 it will just run at 2.0 speeds.
Yes, the USB 3.0 cable is backwards compatible. It has more wires in it, but in a 2.0 slot it will just use what it needs.

Use the advanced USB 3.0 interface for maximum compatibility with standard desktops and laptops. USB 3.0 works with PCs equipped with a USB 3.0 port for maximum file transfer speeds, but also works with standard USB 2.0 ports. Or upgrade to FireWire 800 or powered eSATA by pairing the drive with the appropriate GoFlex upgrade cable. (Upgrade cables sold separately.)

USB 3.0 originally touted 10x the speed of 2.0, but with the bottleneck at the PC, 3X speeds are more realistic.
Other caveot is that 5 meters is the max length of a 3.0 cable.

If you have an open PCI slot, and have a real need for the 3.0 speed, here is a 2-port for $14 shipped

Even without the 25% coupon, the deal is still warm with the $25-of-$75 coupon. Total cost for the 1TB 3.0 drive is $54.99.

There's also a 15% in-store coupon (code 77092) but I don't think it can be stacked with the other coupons.

Thanks for the answer, appreciate it

Does USB 3.0 really help for a single drive? I'd think the drive would get saturated first on sustained IO.
I'd think USB 3.0 is more practical for non-spinning storage with lots of IOPS and Bandwidth, or multi-disk devices...

USB 2.0 480mbps
USB 3.0 5GBps, real world testing 2.8GBps or ~ 5-6 times faster than USB 2.0

You be the judge:

needed another external, thanks OP

Deal died.

Good thing I'm not checking 8 day old deals. Oh wait, I was because some idiot bumped an 8 day old deal.

Wouldn't it have been simpler just to click on the "flag this deal as dead icon"?
