One this that confuses me is the specs says dual core, but when you check Intels site on the I7 in this it says quad core.

Anyone know what's going on there?

The dual core language is most likely from a tired intern who wrote up the add. It's the second generation Sandy bridge chip released in Q-4 of 2011 as you saw you look up the model number and there is only one chip that matches that model number new or refurbed it doesn't affect the cores.

Nice deal well done machine. The only negative is the graphics chip. The graphics chip actually so poor that it holds back the laptop.

Is there an i7 laptop under $650 that has better graphics capabilities?

+ Tax

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger but nervous about the refurbished angle since this will be my work computer and a crash would really suck. How much is the risk when buying refurbished vs new?

Blue-ray is such a waste of money. Everything now is online/cloud/Netflix... well until the stupid gov do stuff to shut it down. Reduce $200 by removing that Blue-ray and I might jump on this.

Toshiba makes a great laptop. Thanks!!

Furthermore: 1600x900 resolution on a 17" display?! My 1900x1200 D3LL laptop is FIVE YEARS OLD.

This is a better deal if you ask me. I personally prefer Toshiba but HP is a well built machine.
