OOMA
4+ years and not one problem and never spent a cent since......

While you are on a grandfathered plan with no monthly fees, those signing up now for OOMA will not be so lucky and can expect to pay $3-$4 in taxes per month.

Lack of features in Obi100 w/ GV? Hardly. With Obi100 and GV, you get features that cost an additional $10 / month from OOMA. Call screening? Blacklist? Voicemail to email? All free with GV. With OOMA, you'll pay an extra $10 / month.

I'm not knocking OOMA and they certainly are cheaper than most mainstream telcos, but you can't compete with a one time fee for OBi and free thereafter. And as for the argument that Obihai could close up shop and this device would be rendered useless, that could in fact happen, but don't forget, the same holds true for OOMA. I'd certainly rather be out only $38 for Obi than $199 for OOMA.

Here is the best link to learn all about it. OBIHAI forums: http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php

They work great. Just a bit of a learning curve. I use mine daily, as do my folks, with no problem. Excellent voice quality.

OBIHAI's Account Configuration Wizard for Google Voice: http://www.obihai.com/itspConfiguration/itspConfiguration-google...

Also look for blogs by Michigan Telephone. Very informative.

Not all are totally free to use.
Some you have to pay for 911.

I'd rather pay the $3 - $5 a month then the $33+ a month and be told i'm getting a great deal on;y to find that when the promotion ends it's jacked up.

It's still a better deal.

BetterDays:

If Obi shut down the unit will still work. You would lose the free OBI talk but not GV and other companys

Good to know. I thought the outbound calling part would no longer work in that case. Thanks.

Go for it, and Happy Birthday... I was hoping the 110 would be onsale.

I'm more or less sold on the Obi110 as the cell reception in my new apartment is total shite. But I'm debating which handset to go for.

My req's are pretty simple: cordless, one or two handsets, and a headset jack on that handset for when I need to be on long conf calls. And obviously, needs to be compatible with the Obi (though it seems all are). Waded through some Amzn listings but didn't see anything that fit the bill. Any recs? 'preciate any help

Ended up going for a Panasonic somethingorother that fit my requirements and was cheap enough. So far so good with the Obi100. The setup was a bit of a PITA; it didn't play nice with wireless so I had to plug my laptop into the router via network cable to get it set up. Now it works just fine, though, and integration with Google Voice via my Sprint number is beautiful.

Perfect solution for shitty cell phone reception in my new apartment.
