Depends on the state. In CA they do not tax downloads but there is a state sales tax.

ETA: my4mainecoons is right. I missed the key word "rewards". Rewards are a discount on the purchase price. Up to the amount of the rewards you will not incur tax if your state taxes downloads.

I would hate to be the one holding on to $900 worth of rebates when the rebate bubble bursts. LOL

Remember Tiger Direct? I am not saying Staples doesn't pay their rebates, but there are just so many things that can go wrong. Your checks can be lost in the mail or someone can steal your checks. It's unlikely but it has happened before and Staples is not very good at resolving those kinda issues.

After work, I quickly checked FW and found this thread on my phone. So, I thought I was lucky to get to Staples 4 minutes before they closed. Unfortunately, I completely missed the "online-only" part of the deal. I thought it was strange that the in-store weekly flyer was tiny and had no mention of FAR software and that they were just slow with putting up the FAR signs. I suppose I'm going to have to return the software (only bought 2) I bought.

Last year sometime, I had the problem of my ink rewards getting stolen. I had Staples issue me a new rewards number, and haven't had the problem since. But ever since then all my online orders get applied to the rewards account that was supposedly closed. What they actually did was just close the online account on staplesrewards.com, but the rewards number is still active. I also can't give my phone number at the store, have to scan my card, or it gets credited to the wrong account. I was able to re-create the rewards account on staplesrewards.com and changed all the info, and I made sure my rewards number shows up as the right one on my Staples.com account, but it still happens.

I guess the point of all that was... I want to order some of this stuff and have it count towards my Premier... not that I'll have trouble reaching it anyway. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions for a solution? In store, I just have them scan my card and it all works, but I can't order any rewards-related items online and get the credit to the right account properly.

This issue is common on SD. Call Rewards. IIRC, they can link your old account to the new one.

I often look at the Staples process w/ 2 parts trepidation and 1 part sheer amazement. It's like... I envy the people willing to invest the time equity into the end game, but then cringe at doing it myself.

Anyway, there is more to it then then meets the eye (pros here, feel free to correct me I'm wrong).

People get a lot of rewards from purchases on previous hot deals and also by redeeming their ink cartridges. They then use one of the myriad of illicit or legit coupons online; many times bought from ejunkie (they these coupons usually allude me!) to sweeten the purchase price. With coupon and rewards, people then get FAR crappy software (preferably boxed I would think), sell the software (surprisingly, there is a resell market for this software) and cash the rebate; in essence double and/or sometimes triple dipping.

IMO, too much effort for me and maybe also just bad timing.

To dude waiting on $900 in rebate checks... holy bejebus! I laud the effort and to each his fw experience!

I have rewards around $250, which shows in the summary page, but not in the view nd print page, hence wanted to know, what was I doing wrong and if so, how to get them/or use online.
