did it for my parents thanks

There was a similar deal back in Nov. I applied for both my parents, but only my father's arrived. Just applied for my mother's again. Hope it will arrive this time. It is always nice to have some kind of discount. And remember that AARP discounts are better than AAA discounts.

If AARP discounts center around hotel stays, it is of no use for me.

Never been a member, but somehow I am on their email list. The have never tried to sell me insurance, but they do keep asking me to support Social-ist Security.

Be aware that when you join them, you will start receiving all sorts of solicitations in the mail tailored to "old" people, including hearing aids. I also started to receive phone calls from charities. I called AARP and told them to stop providing my info for marketing purposes. He said their partners would not mail me things any more, but he said they didn't provide my phone number to anyone since they didn't have it. However, if they provide the name & address to a marketer, it's pretty easy to get the phone number at that point. I got this free membership for one year starting in October, and I'm not going to renew it. I can get the same type of discounts using other channels.

<-- turning 50 soon ... funny, I don't feel tardy.

WOW....some really poor spelling in this thread.

I can give this organization a spin on Magellan's dime ThanksGigilani

Will put yourself on Do-not-call list help?

So do I, but I've never been a member. No one has yet asked to see my card...

Its funny how something simple a good deal can become so political for some
What would have been your response to this deal if RUSH would have endorsed it?
Thanks OP

So here it is

Obviously from a quick glance a conservative religious right organization.

when i click link is does not say that if you already a member you get an extra year...please help

thx op in 4 1

50 to be a member & the spouse can become a member too, regardless of age.

Not fully true. There was an AARP credit card promotion (i think it is still going on). If you joined AARP you could take advantage of a 5% Cash Back card... Long story short, I'm not a full member of AARP and I'm 34. Yes, I get some weird looks when I use my card, but anyone can join

Bizatch is corrupt.

Soon, if you google: "Bizatch is corrupt" you will get a hit and therefore it's true.

props!!

Thanks op.

Signed me and my GF up. Thanks OP. Good find.

Once you become a member, check out their auto club. It's cheaper than AAA and you can cover your entire family for one price. I have the best plan (longer towing coverage) and pay $101 per year and it covers me, my wife, and my 2 kids. AAA charges extra for each additional person. And because I was a member of the auto club and had not renewed my AARP membership, they gave me a 3 year AARP renewal for free.

Motel 6 offers a 10% AARP discount...

What's with the red flag? people were complaining about marketing calls, why not put on the do-not-call list?

thanks OP in for a renewal..

as for all the negative info.. at least get the story right.. folks were upset with AARP not about Obamacare.. but rather an earlier deal that allowed for an increase in medicare prescription drug coverage but the bill didn't require the drug companies to compete on prices like they do in the VA.. so basically the elderly got more drug coverage.. and the drug companies got to continue their gross margins..

TY, OP, for this deal. Free is always good!!

GO HEELS!!!

When I moved in the Fall of 2010, I went from living in CVS territory, to living in Walgreens one. I turned 50 in early 2011, and joined AARP, after I saw that Walgreens gives you discounts at their stores when using your AARP card. At least once a month, after swiping my card at WAG's, a coupon for $3 to $5 off my next purchase spits out of the catalina. I get savings on products, and occasionally a free item (bottle of 85mg aspirin, for example). I have been using AARP for my Medicare D plan, and use mail order, which is processed by Walgreens. I get a 90 day supply for what I used to pay for 30 days. I have saved quite a bit as a result of membership. My membership is expiring this month, so this is the perfect time. a)I only wish they wouldn't send all the mail for various insurance plans that I don't need, and don't qualify for. I may have to try calling them and seeing if I can get that stopped somehow. b) The young people working at WAG's have "carded" me when trying to use the AARP catalina for $$$$ off my order. They ask to see my card because apparently I don't look old enough to be a AARP member. Appreciate the free membership. I probably saved at least $300 last year.

Looked at their website. It would seem that they have a political agenda.

They do have a political leaning and they push their products. So why did I just join? Walgreens gives extra discount with membership on some items. I have no shame!

I'm already a member but their site showed me as not enrolled.

Thanks gigilani. My membership is good until 2015 but I went ahead and filled out the form for the extention, signed up my sister and her husband, also emailed the info to one of my brothers. Will forward it to a 3rd sibling too.

Thanks...My mother signed up.

When did it become possible to be on Medicare at the age of 50?

I'm also a member but received a confirmation email. I'll check my inbox in a few hours to see if anything has changed.

He may be disabled.

Thanks - hope they connect my account with this so it is an extension and not a second account....

Thanks!!! Hubby is eligible for AARP due to his age, but I'm not. I was surprised that as his spouse, they allowed me membership regardless of my age.

I'm in.

I wouldn't join AARP if they paid me and that looks like what they are trying to do.

I did the November signup but never got it. Will try again.

Yes, AMAC is "the conservative alternative" to the AARP. AMAC is open about their political leanings, where AARP is not.

AMAC does not have all the discounts that AARP does. The AARP discount for one 2-night stay at a Hampton Suites was $32, which was 200% of my annual membership fee.
That's why I have a membership in both.
But I write my representatives and tell them that AARP does not represent ME, and others like me.
