I thought the light source is via the backlight and so it doesn't matter what is displayed on the screen it consumes the same power as long as the screen is on.

Blacks use much less power than whites (hmm, that sounds funny) on SAMOLED/AMOLED screens. So yes, power is still used, just much less which equals longer battery life and less potential for screen burn-in.
And AMOLED screens provide light via each pixel, not a broad backlight like other technologies. If the pixel is black, it's essentially using no power hence the benefit of a solid #000000 background.

Even if there's a power consumption difference, it'll be so minuscule that it won't make any noticible difference.
If it was a 80 inch screen... Maybe it will.

If you have Talkatone and Google Voice app downloaded, you can make and receive free calls. Use it all the time. Too bad you are not smart enough to know that iPad can make calls.

Ironic, an iPad lover who tells about how good it is and what it can do by mentioning a google product....
I don't think this is the international version. It says LTE, so it's probably the AT&T version, which means the worse SoC. Exynos doesn't support LTE, so if this phone has LTE, you probably have the Snapdragon SoC - which also means a slower GPU.

When I am in Europe and China the thing is lightning fast. It's all horses for courses... and I need to travel without losing contact with the office...
I rooted mine, cleaned off the bloat, and trimmed the data usage as well as the battery. Mine uses 0.25% of battery an hour in standby with GPS/Location off, about 0.5% with GPS/location on. This is with WiFi (or a strong cell signal), Bluetooth, and all the basic phone software, along with IMAP Gmail using K9 and Groove IP running. Data use is about 2MB a day under these conditions, well below my 10MB Euro roaming cap. That's more than 5 days on standby with occasional use...
Great deal, OP... I paid $699 for this white model just over a month ago
ps: use a black wallpaper, the display only drains power for the illuminated pixels..
Why would i spend close to 6 bills to get 2g speed on TMO in my books that is big incompatibility.
But i get your point you can use on tmo 2g snail speed.

FYI, guys over at xda got ATT note hacked to work with tmobile 4g hspa+ speeds.
also, because of failed merger, the positive by-product is for tmobile phones to utilize ATT spectrum.
no youre right, we have groove ip, which dosent require google talk.

I ordered one even though it doesnt work on tmobile 3g. hopefully sometime soon it will be hacked to work on tmobile 3g/4g or tmobile will start using att bands. i heard they already start testing on 1900 band.

Sure, and I can make "phone calls" with my laptop. It won't fit in my pocket though, just like the iPad. iPads are great but they aren't mobile phones.

For the international version?!?!!?! Um, can you provide a link?
The poster you quoted was saying that he ordered the International Note for which last time I was on XDA, there was no hack. Now the ATT version HAS been Hacked, but that isn't the one that was for sale in this thread. If you have news of a hack for the international one, pls share.

sorry for the confusion. i meant that there was a hack for the att version. i think the international version is impossible due to different hardware. the international version would have to be hacked at the hex level for it to work.
there is a guy named bedwa on xda who is working on the international hack.
