FYI:

* REI members do not earn member refunds on these items.

Code is active.

Technically not an "extra" 20% off since it is off the regular price. I was really hoping for 20% off sale items too.

Worked on an already discounted bike (Raleigh Capri 3.0) and took $200 off the $1000 price.

Coupon is also valid at REI-OUTLET.COM

Any way to test the code before paying $20 for membership?

You can simply multiply the items price by 0.8.

Exclusions (excerpt from the actual coupon I received in the mail along with my dividend): Offer not valid on special orders, package discounts, prior purchases, REI giftcards, REI e-giftcards, passes and tickets, gift boxes, memberships, shop services or rentals. Offer not valid on hard-shell boats or stand up paddleboards, any item with GPS technology, phones or personal locator beacons. Offer not valid on skis, boots or bindings; snowboards boots or bindings. Offer is limited to stock on hand and backorderable items.

Can anyone check if it works with this item? I don't have a membership and just bought this 3 days ago. If it works, I'd join REI, repurchase, and return the first order since it's not valid for prior purchases.

It's an outlet item: Diamondback clarity 2 hybrid 2011 size 19

Thanks

Nope ... after I add this to my cart and login (as a member), checkout shows this warning -

REWARDS20: Your shopping cart does not contain at least 1 qualifying coupon item.

amusing they'd exclude winter sports gear this late in the season. wonder what they plan to do; hold on to it and label it a 2013 model in the fall?

Got the answer to my question: coupon valid in stores and online.

The REWARDS20 code should work for outlet items, too. I just logged into my account and there is a banner ad for 20% off one outlet item as well as one regular REI item. Furthermore, I added an item to my cart and there's a box saying: "REI MEMBERS GET MORE. Save $23.79 on this item with coupon code REWARDS20 through 4/15/12."

The exclusions for the outlet coupon states it's valid on all outlet items, except bikes. Bummer.

By the way, thanks OP. For some reason I don't get emails from REI anymore, even though I'm a member and probably would have missed this.

For anyone without a membership who's waffling on whether to buy one, I'd stronly suggest doing it. The membership fee is a one time fee for life. It entitles you to receive the the annual membership dividend on all your qualifying purchases. Since REI is run like a cc-op the members all share in the dividends which usually works out to about 10% CashBack each year on what you've spent at the store. Plus, if you happen to have an REI Visa card, you get an additional 5% CashBack. Plus, they have a virtually unlimited, for any reason, return policy.

If you're at all active outdoors, or even a poser like me (pretending/wishing I was more active than I actually am), REI is a phenominal place to shop. Store staff are seriously knowledable about their merchandise and outdoor sports in general. Of the thousands of retail stores and chains in America, there are only a few where I don't mind spending my hard earned money and REI is one of them (Costco, Amazon & Trader Joes being a few others).

We've had our membership for over 20 years now, and I've easily gotten over $2000 in dividends back on that small membership fee.

As a member, don't you get your annual dividend statement in the mail? The 20% coupon comes with it along with a voting ballot for the board of directors. The do not send out an email.

I bought a tent @2005 and matching footprint next year and I found that footprint doesn't go well with tent.
On 2010, four years later, I finally bring it to store to ask why it doesn't match well, they explained about size difference between models of every year and refunded in full my old one. I bought 2010 one which matches a little bit better than old one.
I haven't seen any other store takes return and refund in full for 4 years old used item.
