but thanks for posting the coupons.

I don't see the idea also. They should just email and save some money. They used to make us running to the customer desk to ask for a copy if we forgot the coupon but they just scan for everyone now.

Customer service at Costco's in Mt. Laurel, NJ is getting worst also. I'm thinking about Sam's Club but Costco's is on my way to work.

I'm a vendor with Costco, trust me, it does not Costco a dime to send those coupons out, all us vendors inside the coupon book share the cost of producing and mailing those out. Its just part of the deal we sign with them. And the discounts, its not Costco giving the discounts, its also the vendors.

As for membership, I use the Costco AMEX Business card which gives me back enough CashBack discount to justify it. (I recently got back close to $400)

$400??? Baller! I work for a vendor that sells Costco. I wish my wife were as skinny as the margins.

Does your wife think you're perfect or did she get you at Costco where she'll soon be taking you -- to the return desk?

We mutually accept each other's imperfections. Besides, even with Costco's generous return policy she would have a tough time talking them into taking me back.

haha, you guys crack me up!

We are also Costco Executive members, receive CashBack checks every year that cover the entire Executive fee, but never purchase gas there. In our case, their gas prices are exactly the same as at other gas stations and the lines are always long.

Do people bragging about the 4% CashBack on gas that they get on their Costco AMEX cards (the Executive 2% CashBack does not apply to gas purchases) realize that there are a number of credit cards out there that pay 5% CashBack on gas purchases everywhere? You don't need to be a Costco member or purchase gas at Costco to easily get 5% CashBack on gas.

There are a number of rather compelling alternatives to the Costco AMEX Business card, which offer more flexibility, better CashBack percentages, etc...

Yes, there are better cards out there, but often times the Costco near me has such great gas prices that it still comes out ahead in spite of the lower Cash Back percentage.

whine much?

bargainron said:   Hard to do that since they ask for your membership card at checkout. The cash card is not a membership card.

But it can be used without a membership card. As they state in their online description of the CashCard:

"Members and non-members may use the cash cards to shop at any Costco location in the United States, Puerto Rico or on costco.com. "

Thanks farside no i can plan in advance.

MikenLinda said:   I shop at Sam's Club very often, and am very happy with their merchandise. It is not anything close to what Wal-Mart carries. Much better quality, and all of the store personnel have been very helpful and friendly. Although I no longer carry a Costco membership due to driving distance, I still like to see what their coupons offer. I may join again in the future.

I also have a sams membership and it is liking shopping at WalMart, sams is lost when it tries to compare itself to Costco. AND, they give you are hard time on returns!

You would still need to be a member to purchase a cash card, but you can give to a non member as you said. But, not any good unless you get a member to buy one for you

jfgary said:   Anyone have any experience on the ink refills that Costco is offering? They are half the price for the HP ink I have been buying at Staples.
We've been using this service for over a year and have been more than pleased with the results. They are able to test the cartridge by weighing it to determine if you have more or less than 15-20% available ink. When you remove the cartridge from your printer, take it in as soon as possible in a small plastic bag to your store. If the heads get dry, sometimes they are not able to refill as the ink will not flow. They will test it for you when you drop them off and let you know if the refill is possible. When you get the cartridge refilled, keep it in the holder they provide as that will keep the heads moist until you place it in your printer. We've saved a lot of money by utilizing this service and generally they're ready within an hour.

I think it is 3% back on gas if you have costco AMEX card, gas is of low price at costco than any where else.

Yes, the Costco AMEX has 3% back. I think it's 4% if you have the business version. As far as gas prices being lower than other stations, that's YMMV based on where you live and the overall price and competition. For years where I live (Chicago suburbs), Costco was always notably cheaper than any nearby station. However, within the last couple of years, with the significant overall increase in the price of gas, my local Costco is typically no more than two or three cents less per gallon, ad is sometimes the same as competitors. If I get a promo, like 5% back with Discover, there isn't any real price advantage. I will say that it seems when there is a price spike, Costco tends to stay lower another day or two before increasing. The Chicago area generally is one of the most expensive regions (infuriatingly, I add) for gas.

To me, the membership fee is one way to filter out some undesirable customers.

What pisses me off is that they keep jacking up the membership fee, all that gets you is in the door. Not like a gym membership where you are coming in to use the equipment. Costco you still have buy every thing once you get in the door.

The membership fee was raised by $5 last year after approximately 5 years of no raises of the fee. It's the business model. The markup at the warehouse covers operating costs, the membership fee is profit to stockholders.

You are free to join, go to the warehouse, and not buy anything. Lunchtime usually finds plenty of free tasting samples

Of course, if you don't like it some wouldn't mind if you weren't on the checkout line in front of them so they could process their cart faster

horizon6 said:   Gasoline at Costco now coming for first time to Westchester NY. Supposed to be at the New Rochelle warehouse this Spring. Looking forward to it based on prices obtained at Costco gasoline elsewhere, just a little concerned about increased lines in parking lot and warehouse. That would be great, although I rarely shop at that location. The Nanuet warehouse has gas that is around 20c cheaper than anything else in the area. I think they have it that cheap to compete with NJ prices, which are not that far away. NJ gas is even cheaper than Costco.

Any feedback from the tech gurus on if the laptops are decent deals? I would think it would be mentioned already if any were scorching hot - so I can glean that's not the case - but decent?

NJ state gasoline taxes are less than NY state gasoline taxes. Expect you meant that gasoline prices in NJ are generally cheaper than those in Nanuet NY including those at Costco in Nanuet NY. Regardless of "retailer", some things are priced differently by location, alcoholic beverages with state taxes are another example. Cost of retail rent and transporation costs tot he retailer also have an impact. But glad to see Costco selling gasoline in Westchester, gotta be a savings and put pressure on local competitors to keep their prices down as well.

If anyone's curious about the prices of the items in this coupon book, I've found this to be pretty accurate: http://forum.savvyshopperdeals.com/threads/18011-Costco-Coupon-B... (scroll down to the second post) Of course, sometimes there are price differences, but not all that often. They also rank the deals, but I see they haven't gotten around to it yet.

Normally, electronics are not a deal at COSTCO unless they are on clearance. Prices are same or higher than other places. What is worth is the two-year manufacturer warranty plus if you use Costco True Earnings AMEX card you get a 3rd year. Also, you can return electronics witin 90 days if there is a problem and/or you are not staisfied. You can't do this at most retail stores past 14 days and in some cases you may have to pay restorcking fee at retail stores.

Don't forget you also get free "concierge" service for your electronics (and more). This might be worth it for the technically challenged.

erincast said:   Just bought those vitamin C last week. Do they refund the difference if it is on sale this coming week?

They will sometimes (especially if you're nice about it) let you bring in the item along with the receipt and give you your savings. Go to a different one if you have to.

Once upon a time (I'm talking 10 years ago), it made sense to shop at Sam's Club and CostCo because buying in bulk really did lead to significant savings. That isn't the case any more. There's not a lot that these guys sell now that I can't get for a similar price at my local supermarket. Basically now I go to CostCo for their $1.50 hotdog and drink, their rotisserie chicken, and... hmmmm... that's about it.

Does anyone have any comments on the Jvc camcorder in the book?

kooldami said:   Does anyone have any comments on the Jvc camcorder in the book?First comment... $50 off how much? Why don't they just publish the new price if it's so great?

2nd comment... I bet your bottom line price is lower HERE.

We're planning to check these out this weekend. Our last ones are about dead. I guess it doesn't matter if they're not the best...b/c if they don't last we'll just return them. But checking out the price when we go on Sunday.

Any AMEX card gives you an additional year warranty, and at any store. I use my Hilton AMEX at Costco.

Thanks all the things i need this month with the exception of a patio umbrella sale..Repped OP!

Thanks, very helpful information.

Anyone have any experience with the shed listed for $999?

Bump! you the man!

Five gallons of milk in a week? Navy seals?

So I noticed the physical coupon book says the savings are instant...no need to cut out the coupon. How long has it been that way??

They're not all instant. Leaf through the book, and you'll see that only the first few pages say that the savings are instant. I almost missed out on 3 coupons yesterday because I mistakenly assumed that the system took care of it all automatically.

You might still have to cut out the coupons depending on your cashier's mood. I've had cashiers scan their own copy of the coupon book without even being asked, but I also had cashiers who made me cut several coupons while people waited behind me.

Just one should be needed, whether the cashier wants you to scan more than one or not. And when I've needed to use them I just have them scan one from the book.

Yes, they all have the same bar code. Some cashiers will scan their own coupon book. Some will scan yours. Others will make you hand them every single coupon. *shrug*
