For generic questions about Staples, read this FAQ: Staples Rewards for Beginners. In fact, even if the question isn't generic, it's probably been answered in some form or another in that thread.
anyplace said: "We're sorry, the following item is out of stock"
as everyone (except you) seems to know...these go in and out of stock during the week. also, based on the fine print of the rebate, the deal might be valid in store as well. But since you're so busy giving reds to people, I wouldn't expect you to think or know any of this.
and PS--
the download is IN STOCK for me.

Guys -
I've used SER before and it's really easy. The question I have is: when it says limit 10 per household / address, do I have to 1. Have 10 separate Online Orders? 2. fill up the SER online form 10 times, 1 per order?
It's still no big deal, I'll do it anyways. just want to understand the 'correct' procedure.

if you've order all 10 on one receipt, just enter it once on the rebate site and it will validate all 10.
if you have seperate orders, then you need to enter the rebate info for each order # you have qualifying rebate items on.

In the related items box on that item page, the McAfee AV 2012 1-user is also listed as FAR. Limit 1 rebate per household, though.
Thank you. i was able to order 5 of the download in 1 transaction.

I was able to do 10 in the download version. seems no one is able to sell them on eBay so not worth the trouble to get boxed.

I got 10 just to help cash out an AMEX gift card I had. Love the option to get a check rather than a visa GC.

Claimable on tax return?
Absolutely. For the cost basis of the product you donate.

This comes up frequently for FAR items. It is the lower of FMV or cost basis. Since your cost basis is zero...

If you really wanted to be able to deduct something, you can deduct sales taxes, shipping, etc... (if you went to the store to buy the software and didn't buy anything for yourself, you could probably deduct the mileage expense) Of course, if you deduct state sales tax (if they pass an extension), you wouldn't be able to double dip on the deduction for sales taxes.
However, the hassle of dealing with the calculations and other stuff probably isn't worth any tax benefit you may get.

From IRS Replacement Cost The cost of buying, building, or manufacturing property similar to the donated item should be considered in determining FMV. However, there must be a reasonable relationship between the replacement cost and the FMV.
The replacement cost is the amount it would cost to replace the donated item on the valuation date. Often there is no relationship between the replacement cost and the FMV. If the supply of the donated property is more or less than the demand for it, the replacement cost becomes less important.
To determine the replacement cost of the donated property, find the “estimated replacement cost new.” Then subtract from this figure an amount for depreciation due to the physical condition and obsolescence of the donated property. You should be able to show the relationship between the depreciated replacement cost and the FMV, as well as how you arrived at the “estimated replacement cost new.”
.....So wait for the item to go off FAR, then donate. Take a screenshot of the Staples price page, and you should be good.

"I know a guy" ... who donates after the software gets rev'd (ie, 2011 software after 2012 software is made available). Once the rev, just go to Frys.com and look up the SKU on the old software. They offer it, and it's almost always priced at "full retail." There's your cost basis.

The replacement cost is generally the upper limit of what you can deduct for the contribution. The replacement cost alone cannot be used in figuring deduction amounts. Also, replacement costs are generally considered with large contributions of property where it's difficult to determine a FMV and where the cost basis can't be used for determining the deductible amount.
March Rewards are out!! YMMV, posters on SD reporting their rewards are up. Probably staggered, all should be up by Thrs/Fri of this week, so keep checking.
Monetize buying this software instore (with Price Match to $35 each with $35 rebate)
can also use $25/75 to make money!
