Nothing to see here. The cheapest new laptop is the Y series which goes for $450, but it has 11.6" display and an AMD E450 processor. After the $150 credit, it comes to $300 which is all one of these "better than a netbook, but not quite a real laptop" things is really worth.

One place says you will be send a gift card for the Sony store (in the FAQ) and another place on the same page say eCoupon Code. Which one is it?
I've got an old 8086 with b/w screen that uses 5.25" floppies. Can't wait to finally get something for it.

Can I trade in more than one laptop and get $300 credit to buy a new one? Or can you only use a single $150 credit on each laptop purchase?
Hello, I did the tradein of a Dell laptop and a Asus netbook at the local Sony Store and they gave me 2 $150 vouchers which I used to purchase a Series E laptop. They did check to see that the computers would boot up to verify that they were working. I think the offer only applies to laptops and netbooks but you can call the Sony tradein phone number to check.

sfchew, was the 6gbmem/640HD, i5 Laptop for $594 something you saw inside the Sony Store? Was it a special specific to the store you went to? Or was it something online? I can't find find that model (w/those specs) at that price online.
And can you provide the exact product number of that Vaio E you got for $594?
Hello, yes the price was $594 plus tax at the Sony Store. Sorry I do not have the product number or sku with me but you can try to call the Sony Store in Santa Clara, Ca (408) 246-9151

I was wondering how common are these trade-ins (at this value) with other companies? I'm really tempted with this one since I have an old HP single core laptop w/ intel celeron processor that I haven't picked up/used in about a year and half. It's just collecting dust, want to get rid of it.
The Best Buy trade-in module at their website prices my laptop at "zero point zero" (to quote Animal House). So Sony giving me a potential $150 is really tempting.
Are there companies that every now and then offer something similar to what Sony is offering? In that case, I might hold off on this deal.

Go to this link and you will find a Sony Vaio 15.5" E Series for 459.99.. The Amazon page will bring you to Sony's site where you can use the coupon and lower the cost to 309.99 plus tax.

were you able to get 300 off on one item or you had to purchase two laptops?
I was able to use 2 vouchers for 1 laptop. The store manager did seem to say that this was not the normal procedure but they were willing to do the deal.

I think the "2 vouchers for 1 laptop" is specific to Sfchew 's store only. If you decide to do the online trade-in , Sony will email you the $150 off E-coupon immediately after you 've registered the trade-in computer for shipping. The e-coupon is not stackable and it cannot be used in the Sony outlet site. good weekend everyone.
Note that's the price for the Pentium B960 Processor. If you want the i5, it's $609.99 before the trade-in.

I'm confused, at this link it says you get a giftcard you can use in a Sony Store. So than can't we buy anything with it and not necessarily a laptop?
hello, it is a ecoupon voucher and can only be used for a Sony Laptop

you can? mine says i cannot buy clearance and y series?
below is from Sony: Offer valid through 04/28/2012. eCoupon valid through 05/31/2012.
This eCoupon is not stackable and so it can not be redeemed with other discounts like the Student discount or EPP discount programs.
Offer not valid on Sony Y Series or Sony Outlet laptops.

I did the $150 trade-in online. It doesn't work on Y series, Sony Outlet laptops, tablets, or PS3. Believe me, I tried. It only works on new laptops. I haven't redeemed my coupon code, but it is still valid. The discount shows up on checkout.
One thing I didn't try that I thought about was trying to redeem this in-store. Back when the $150 trade-in was still available, I filled out the form online and got my $150 coupon code before I even mailed my laptop. To my surprize, it worked immediately at check out, but I was weary of sending my laptop over the mail. I called my nearest Sony store and they said they could accept my trade-in with the $150 discount toward 'a purchase'. So perhaps at a Sony store, the manager can be 'nice to you.'
If you haven't done so already, it is too late to get the $150 off. That promotion was only good for one week.
