At this price with the 1 yr warranty I think it's time for me to pounce on 1! Well, make that 2 as Mother's Day is coming up & my wife wants 1 as well.
Hard to pass one up at this price, good find ButcherBoy.

Great deal and thanks OP.
Some insight - I got this last month when it was this price. Basically looked new and I am sure it was. I am returning it though (already put in the request). As an eReader, I prefer a basic Nook or Kindle with the e-ink technology. I noticed eye strain and headaches after reading on the Fire for a while. I basically read on a train going into NYC with florescent lighting above me. The glare was too much for me. As a tablet, it is OK as you are basically stuck with the Amazon appstore. Their maybe some hacks for it, but I just did not look into it and also you are limited to the 8GB of memory. I love watching movies on my tablet and too much hassle getting it on and being restricted to the memory and their is no wifi on the train, or that would have helped.
For now, I got the Nook color from CowBoom for $105 last week and have not modded it yet, but I heard it is a simple process. Any link to a Nook Color mod for a rock like me would be appreciated.
The Fire is a great build quality and good device for this price if it serves your needs. Purely for reading, I got the Nook Simple Touch and could not be more happier.

Not to thread-crap (as I also frequently benefit from BB's posts) but supposedly the Kindle Fire 2 will come out in 2012. I would love a Kindle Fire but can wait for the Fire 2 as long as it comes out by Christmas and the price is still < $200.

And don't forget the Fire 4 in 2014.
But let's be real, something better is ALWAYS going to be coming out later. Just how much later do you want to wait? For me, I am going to jump on this for my wife so I can get my a500 and playbook back. lol

Got one of these for my tech-inept mother, thinking that she *might* use it to read some books. Within two days she was downloading apps, watching movies on Netflix, etc.
This thing is super easy to use, and the price is unbeatable. I would say that it is at least as intuitive as the iPad/iPod Touch.
The hardware seems pretty good as well. The screen is clear and bright, the speakers sound OK, and everything on the screen moves fluidly.

The Nook Color and Nook Tablet are real easy to hack and install CM7 or CM9. How easy is the Fire? Can you boot an alternative OS with a SD card?

Looking for advice on nook color vs kindle vs something else? Bought my 12 year old a cheap trial tablet for Christmas. She has done great with it and I would like to upgrade her to something better. She reads on it a lot and goes on line, but what I am really looking for is a good selection of apps (she is a kid after all and angry birds is fun!) Anyone who has tried these have a recommendation of one over the other? Thanks in advance.

The Amazon app store is pretty robust. It doesn't have everything that Google's does, but almost everything I've wanted that was available for Android was there. So, as far as content is concerned, I wouldn't have any concerns at all. I really like my Fire. Iver never used a Nook Color, so I can't comment on the content available with it.

In 2020 they will have the Kindle Nova with Android 10 (Vanilla Wafer), a quad-core processor, holographic interactive pr0n, and solar charging. I'd wait for that one.
Yet another good post Butcherboy. Thanks for your contributions to this community. Green to you.

I have modded Nook Color running Android. Got the SD containing the Android file and easy to follow instruction from flebay for $10 shipped. Hands down better than AMZN infused Android OS for much less (when B&N unloads it on eBay - mine was pristine - for $125 shipped).

Just think, supposedly the Kindle Fire 3 will come out Nov 2013. And at that time you are going to want to wait tell 2014 for the Kindle Fire 4....

Good for today only ....get one now.
I got my refurb for $169 last week. Veeery nice.
I think it is the perfect size. I have used a friends iPad and always thought it was too big and unwieldy ...it's a thin netbook. The Kindle fire is a tablet.

After comparing the nook tablet and the kindle fire I chose the kindle. Main reason is that it allocates 6GB to user content while Nook has to be modified just to allow 4GB. Thanks for posting OP!

Both Nook and KF run modified versions of Android. You purchased(!!!) a SD card with the 'Android file' with probably a more or less 'standard' Android experience. And, yes, of course you can do the same with the Kindle. Just head over to XDA and read up, and download. I have ICS (android v4) running like a champ on my 2 KF's.

Thanks OP!!!!! Got my Kindle Fire today. My 11 year old daughter bought it and is going to be thrilled. It looked brand new and suspect it was since it was sealed up in the packaging and flawless. It's a pretty neat device. For $140 it was a steal.
