Hope Amazon matches! I love my 128 but would prefer the beefier 256.

Free shipping as well. Nice find, OP.

Anyone know how this compares to the OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-240G? As per the specs on Newegg, the OCZ seems a bit faster.

If you're looking at the OCZ, I bought one too many at the $180 AR price a couple days ago. Can't return, but would sell for $180 + shipping ($5?). UPC removed of course. PM me if interested.

OCZ SSDs are basically trash so there is no comparison. The Crucial M4 is far superior to the OCZ. As a general rule, OCZ SSDs are problematic with poorly designed firmware that pushes their SSD hardware beyond its design limits. Add that poor quality control and horrible customer service when you have to get a replacement. With OCZ it is not a question of IF it will fail; it is a question of WHEN they will fail.

Not really. Per passmark they are just about the same:
http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/hdd.php?hdd=C400-MTFDDAC256MAM

Someone did a benchmark using AS-SSD:
http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=vi...

Results seem to be that the Crucial drive is much better on sequential reads and writes but almost identical on random read and writes against the OCZ Agility.
On the other hand, the OCZ Vertex line seems to be better performance-wise but costs a lot more than the Crucial.

So I think the Crucial disk is a good deal...if you want more performance, you have to pay more..

Newegg also has the M4 256GB with transfer kit for $219.99 after promo code: CRUSSD54

under $1/GB!!! This deal is *so hot*!

ssd price war starting... must ... resist...

Ooops.

Edit:
I was all excited to see $199.99 on Amazon, but then noticed it was being sold by Tiger Direct plus $5 shipping.

Wonder if using this kit is worth the extra $20. Seems like Win 7 "system image" does the exact same thing.

199.99 Sold and Shipped by Amazon!!! hurry!...

The transfer kit copies disk to disk rather than creating an intermediate "image".

Now that Amazon has matched the price, you can get the transfer kit here for $14 AR

Hiren's Boot CD can do the same as the transfer kit and much more for free.

Anyone know if Newegg does price adjustments? I just bought this two weeks ago for $299

I have gotten Newegg to adjust the price of memory that hadn't shipped yet (so, a few days after the order) but after a few weeks I think you'd be in the "buy a new one and return old with restocking fee of 15%" ($45 on your $300 drive). Sometimes they waive restocking fees but it's certainly not something to rely on.

Tiger direct has this same deal for 199, but you can use the $10.00 off Visa making it 189.00

You should pretty much expect to be dinged with the 15% restocking charge. Had an issue with Newegg just this week, and they refused to waive the fee. Furthermore, if you buy something with a coupon code, they charge the 15% based on the ORIGINAL price, not the discounted price.

then add it back with tax

Ouch. Your right. Added $17.32 to my bill if I went with Tiger Direct.

newb question: are all 2.5" ssds the same in terms of form factor? i'm looking at upgrading my netbook (Dell mini 9 to be exact) and want to replace the 16GB stock it came with. performance aside, would this fit and work?

EDIT: nevermind. this drive is sata and the one i need is pata ssd. oh well. thanks though

Physically, the Crucial m4 is 8.5mm thick and it will fit into any laptop that has a standard 2.5in drive bay.

BURNING HOT!

Any advice as to which specific Hiren's Boot CD utility (or utilities) to use for the clone/image job?
