It's been a lower price before during Cyber Monday. But I let my friend, Marty, borrow the time machine, and he hasn't been back since 1985.

What are the new device upgrade rules?

Starting May 27, 2012, if you are using the $25, $40, or $60 Beyond Talk plan and you upgrade to a Beyond Talk Smartphone launched after May 1, 2012*, you will need to switch to the $35, $45, or $55 Beyond Talk plan. When you switch plans, you will need to pay for your new plan and you will lose any minutes, messages, and money in your balance. This will also change your monthly payment date. So if you are considering upgrading to a new smartphone, we recommend that you wait until right before your next monthly payment date to activate.

*The following smartphones launched before May 1, 2012 and are therefore not subject to the new device upgrade rules at this time: VentureTM, LG ® OptimusTM Slider, HTC ® Wildfire STM, Motorola TriumphTM, LG ® Optimus VTM, Blackberry ® CurveTM 8530.

Why are you introducing new device upgrade rules? Why does it cost more now?

Like all carriers, Virgin Mobile needs to make changes in order to continue offering the best possible products and services. Virgin Mobile has been able to keep our plan pricing the same for many years. Now, to ensure that we continue to deliver top of the line smartphones to our customers without a contract at competitive prices, these changes are necessary. At $35 per month for Unlimited Data & Messaging, we still have one of the best Android plans available. And even with a no-contract phone costing more upfront, our Beyond Talk plans will still save you money and provide the convenience and flexibility to change your plans as your needs change.

What is a smartphone?

Smartphones are built on a mobile operating system (like Android™ or BlackBerry™) with more advanced computing ability and connectivity than feature phones.

Who will be affected by the new device upgrade rules?

Virgin Mobile Beyond Talk customers who are on the $25, $40, or $60 Beyond Talk plans as of May 27, 2012 and who upgrade to a Virgin Mobile smartphone launched after May 1, 2012.

Where can I get more details?

Our General Terms and Conditions will be updated on May 27, 2012 to reflect the changes.

What if I never upgrade my phone?

At this time, you won’t have to switch to the new Beyond Talk plans unless you upgrade to a smartphone launched after May 1, 2012.

What if I have a feature phone and upgrade to another feature phone?

At this time, the new rules only apply if you upgrade to a smartphone launched after May 1, 2012.

What if I have a smartphone and I downgrade to a feature phone?

At this time, the new rules only apply if you upgrade to a smartphone launched after May 1, 2012.

What if lose my smartphone after May 27, 2012 and I have to replace it?

As long as you’re replacing it with a phone that was launched prior to May 1, 2012, you will not have to switch plans. However, if you upgrade to a phone that was launched after May 1, you will need to switch to the $35, $45, or $55 Beyond Talk plan.

They're dropping prices cause new cell phones will be out in the Summer.

Thanks for the heads up...

specifically the EVO 3D

New phones coming out this summer will not be eligible for grandfathered $25/month plans. This Optimus Slider will be.

byebye vm, I just can take the inferior phone and slow data speed anymore.

Neat. Still trying to figure out how this grammar and wording could somehow imply it has anything to do, at all, with the thread subject.

I see how you have some issues with VM, never used them myself, but I have to say this: your post is ridiculously aloof, and I'd be inclined to say you must work for another prepaid company or your ex left your for a VM employee... if I didn't know better.

It's prepaid.

They are supposed to be inferior, otherwise I highly doubt they would be given contracts to piggy back their signals on major carriers. No self-repsecting business person is going to hand a company their usage rights along with a "Put us out of Business for Free!" card.

Only until 5/27/2012, right?

I'm not sure. The wording seems to imply no 'grandfathering' of any smart phones "launching" after 5/27/12, the Optimus Slider is already here pre-5/27. Optimistically I think the current monthly rates will only apply to the new set of smart phones soon to appear, and will not apply to the current batch even after 5/27.

For the time being at least, VM has said you can change phones after 5/27 and be grandfathered IF you don't upgrade to a phone that was launched after 5/1/12 which means only one of the 5 or 6 phones they have out now.

What is the single excluded phone?

Thanks OP. Looks like FatCash is 6% right now.
