Every time I see a Lenovo thread I cringe. I bought an S10 for my wife a few years ago and it had the worst fan sound in the world. A ton of user-created fixes later and Lenovo still had never addressed the issue by formally admitting to a design flaw or releasing a fix. My wife is a trooper and continues using the laptop, but I'm going to buy her something else to replace it, very soon.

I love Lenovo Thinkpads, such as T, X... The other series just don't have the build quality of a Thinkpad. I have used T60, T62, T40, X60, X201 and so far I have not been disappointed. I tried one Lenovo laptop (not thinkpad), and I had to return it immediately.

That is too bad because I like the features of the Y480 series.
On Amazon and here i have seen too many complaints about Lenovo customer support.

Are you saying they are selling it for 500? If yes, can you show me the correct link? Thanks! dmichelmiron said: Lenovo T Series employee pricing T420 Laptop $200.00 off
I got this T420 laptop for $524 for my brother. I could not believe the price. These machines go for way more than 500.00 usually.
This is an employee discount website with a special sale ending this weekend.
or www.lenovo.com/cepp then shop for the T420. I have an X series and love it. My sister has an older T at work and she says it is built like a tank.

I bought an Ideapad Z560 intel cpu for under $300 at OD a year ago. Upped the ram to 6 mhz-very solid machine if you know what to expect. Sound-sux, graphics-lame, BUT dollar for dollar it is a great laptop.

I have a X61 tablet and the fan has become loud and annoying. There's no easy way to replace it; disappointing.
The resolution on the Y480 sucks. Otherwise I would have gotten one already.

No luck with the coupon codes for the t520 after multiple tries. Oh well, tomorrow will be another deal.

Thanks. In for a T420. I've been waiting about a year for a good deal on one and for what I want, this is the best I've seen.

I have one too, and to be fair, this model is about 5 years old now. Most other laptop brands don't even survive 3+ years.
I have/had the lower-third screen problem, a fingerprint reader, a broken hinge, and the chassis is now cracking in multiple places, but its surviving as my primary computer... pretty good for a 5 year-old laptop.

while I agree (and I suspect the poster that started your comment was joking) if you wait till June 2 or later (yes. I know this is a 2 day deal) you can upgrade to windows 8 for 10 or 15 bucks so it's not that far out.
That given. I'll pass on a Lenovo and stick with my dells.

Yes X61 is a tough long lasting daily use laptop but the fan gets clogged. You need to totally remove the motherboard to get out the combo heatpipes and fan. Not too hard but not fun. Worse still you really should look St the old one before ordering a new fan. They use 2 different ones.
Fan is sealed to heat pipe in mine.
Thinkpad x and T series survived years of daily field use for my company. Even after Lenovo take-over. When we jad a failing ssd drive they offered to have a tech visit and install new one next day in our office. We choose next day FedEx of new drive. Non-thinkpad Lenovo laptops are not even close, but someetimes a good value. Got two $250 black Friday laptops for the kids and work great.

Tech people, help an ignorant old man out. Is the Sandy Bridge chip a deal breaker? If I get one of these with 4g ram, ssd drive and this chip will I be sighing at how slow it is?

hard to answer definitively without knowing what you plan to use the laptop for - but I seriously doubt you will notice a difference in speed. Sandy bridge will give you slightly better integrated graphics compared to previous generation (but obviously don't expect to play crysis on high settings with this)
As far as day to day use and raw performance go, you shouldn't really see that much of a difference.

Every so called good deal I've ever ordered from Lenova, cleared checkout but never shipped for one reason or another. Worst major retailer website I've ever dealt with in that respect. Here's hoping they have improved for those of you who find a deal, but I will no longer waste my time.

i am writing this on a t420. 6 months old; so far so good. Switching between a monitor and laptop screen takes some time though it may be fixed perhaps with a driver upgrade (i may be using the older one).

It looks like 20% off niw, not $200 off. Cheapest one would be $599.

Last two times bought Lenovo laptop on sale... month later order canceled.
I love the keyboard on my employer's T420. Other than that, it is big and heavy. When I press down with my right palm (in normal typing position), the plastic creaks. Kind of sounds like a hard drive clicking, but it is definitely the case. And the top right USB port seems to be sticky. It takes more force to plug in a connector compared to the other USB ports.

Funny you should mention -- the Lenovo x201t and x220t convertible tablet PCs are on the list of Windows 8 Development Hardware. So you can expect there will be pretty decent support, at least for those models.

They have the new Tx30 laptops on the website now, with the Ivy Bridge processors and USB3 (yay!) and the chicklet keyboards (boo!). You can't buy them yet but you can see if it would be worth waiting a month to buy. For me, I want/need the USB3 and the better integrated graphics over the lower prices.
FWIW, I have a T60 that is literally the best computer I've ever owned. I murder this poor thing regularly and its still going strong after 5 years. I realize thats all anecdotal and build quality probably has changed since then, but they know how to make solid computers.
