DieHard Marine Batteries 60% off @ Sears.com, low as $33.99 for 24MS w/o exchange

For some reason all the DieHard Marine batteries are 60% off at Sears.com:

Free instore pickup, almost all of them were instock at the Sears I was looking at.

Some batteries say in the title that exchanges are required, others do not.

All 11 batteries listed here:

Any of you Solar panel experts out there want to comment on how well these would work for a emergency/back up set up for a stand alone system with a couple hundred watts of panels?

None available in the DFW area

What's the difference between marine batteries and other small vehicle batteries?

nice find - 105Amp Hour (@20A draw) deep-cycles (DieHard Marine Deep Cycle/RV Battery, Group Size 27M) for $39.99 is a good deal for emergency power at the house (inverters, amateur radio, whatever). I'm a couple years behind replacing a 10 year one - $80-ish last time I looked at Sams Club.

marine batteries are deep cycle. they can be run down and recharged without damage.

That sounds great bit whats the tradeoff?
Is that a good thing to have in an ATV or motorcyle?

Nice! Would the AGM batteries be best for an off grid solar project?

bestdealseaker said:   Nice! Would the AGM batteries be best for an off grid solar project? Why do you need glass mat batteries for a stationary solar grid project? I would use deep cycle batteries. cheaper and more capacity.

I put the 24M for $39 in my cart, and it changed to $99. Looks like they are doing glitch repair.

Actually, it's a little more complicated than DocEvil's response...

A "deep cycle" (or marine) battery allows for deeper discharges between charging (most manufacturers suggest 50-80% discharge). The trade-off is that they provide much less amperage at start-time ("starter" (or regular 'car') batteries are often described in terms of "cold cranking amps" -- that is a description of their ability to start a vehicle... NOT keep it running... think "electric trolling motor in a boat."

Having said that, you can overcome marine battery "starter" limitations by using bigger/more batteries. They are also better suited for off-grid power storage as asked about a few posts up.

Online chat rep said that this price will not be honored.

I just bought 2 and got a confirmation email. Just waiting for the pick up in store email

bestdealseaker said:   Online chat rep said that this price will not be honored.Really??? I ordered two Marine Deep Cycle/RV Battery, Group Size 27M and just received the online order/ waiting for pickup e-mail.

"This item is temporarily unavailable. To find a similar item, scroll down or enter a term in the search box above" I get this for all of them

When I click on any of the deep cycle batteries, I get:
"This item is temporarily unavailable. To find a similar item, scroll down or enter a term in the search box above."
Dead?

Just talked to Sears and they said that the prices offered are incorrect and that they are not honoring those prices and the real price is only 10% off original prices. Heck it only took me 30 minutes on the phone to get info that they could have put on their website, but since they outsource their programming they will have to wait till that country wakes up to get anything done.

would these be good for a camping trailer? like a toyhauler or something like that?

I bought a marine deep cycle battery from Costco for my car 2 years ago. It died (my fault of leaving a light on for days) right before 18 months and I got half of my money back from Costco. Since then I bought another marin deep cycle battery and recharge it every two weeks to top it off. So far I am very happy with the battery.

Alot of them are showing up as out of stock. I was in need of a new boat battery too. May just go down to Sears and see uf they have any on sale in store.

Picked up two Group 27 batteries at store an hour ago. The sales guy said he sold 18 marine/deep cycle batteries today. He said it must be a one day sale because they were ordering more batteries and he had never seen them priced so low. It didn't even dawn on him that it was a price mistake/error/glitch ??? BTW: Even though when I placed my online order it said no core required, he said there was a $15.00 core charge per battery. I just so happen to have two old car batteries in my trunk that I had planned getting a $5.00 reward card for each. Well, he allowed me to use those batteries for my cores for two deep cycle batteries I had just purchased. It worked out to $85.56 for two 27 series deep cycle batteries Hope others have same experience. (Don't forget to use CashBack)

When I spoke with the local Sears Auto Center, the sales guy just laughed, he said that he has had over 25 calls on these prices. Just a pricing error, and they have no intention of honoring them.

Thanks Butcherboy,

Saw your post at 11:30 figured out what would be best for our Minn Kota trolling motor (just picked up at a yard sale). Got to Sears by 1 PM walked out with a 665 CCA, 135 reserve minute powerhouse to get our canoe up and down the river. $43.80 with junk mower battery core exchange.

Didn't even know that there was mention of a pricing error til I just read the comments above.

Even a used marine battery sells for more.
