Hong, maybe because it doesn't take long to save $55? You can do it in your first trip. If you have the space and can stock up, the savings are pretty incredible - especially over time.

Get a Costco membership and buy gas, cooked whole chicken, cottage cheese, and cooked whole breast turkey. What you save on those items alone will cover your membership cost for the year. Everything else is bonus.

There is a $20 off $75 cleaning and breakroom coupon valid through 9/3/12 on the new cleaning and breakroom catalog. I found mine in Staples lobby area. Good for online or B&M. May be good for next weeks K-cup deal too. Buy 8@$9.99=$79.92 -20.00=$59.92 which is $7.49 each.

Guys, in mistercheap's(and Hong's) world, people pay $55 to join COSTCO. Then they buy only 1 item and NEVER go back to Costco. For millions of normal people, who are members, this Staples deal is not nearly as good as COSTCO. As is so often the case. But keep trying mistercheap; your anti-COSTCO desperation is always amusing no matter how many threads you try to infect with it. If a Costco deal is better than yours, as they frequently are, then it's time to join COSTCO. Or at least have the humility to recognize a BETTER deal than yours.

Plus Costc0 have the best return policy in the business. I never hesitate to buy high ticket or new-in-the-market item from costc0 knowing I can return it anytime and won't be hassled by their staff.

I have a Costco AMEX Business Card. I recieve 4% off gas. This alone will pay for the membership. The only problem with Costco is the staff's attitude...there are so damn many of them standing around up front is makes it hard to exit. Then the chercker people. I have shopped at Costco for a decade and never once been caught stealing. What good are they?

We still buy there, but in 2008 I bought a LCD TV from there and they said I could return it "any time for any reason". And I specifically asked about time limit, and they said return it 10 years later for a refund with no questions asked. A couple of years ago I tried to return it (when it quit working) and they said the return policy was no longer in effect on electronics. Bait and swith if you ask me, but hey I learned not to take "return policy" into my Costco buying consideration. Recommend the same to others.

That return policy was stopped years ago due, most likely, to abuse with television and othe electronics. A lifetime TV warranty? Where do we sign up?

I am not anti Costco, I am anti acting like anyone can get in on the Costco deals. All the power to those of you who can, but the fact is, if you are not a member, you have to pay $55 to join. Great if you can make it back on your gas purchases, special Costco Visa rebate program, etc, etc...but for each person on FW who belongs there are as many or more who do not and do not wish to join or pay $55 to do so. And, there is NO Costco in my area, no matter how hard you knock my threads, they just aren't breaking ground for one around here.

Good points Mistercheap, and I too don't have a nearby Costco...although there is a similar pay-for-membership Sams Club nearby. Those places can be good deals no doubt, if you don't mind standing in long lines to check out with carts full of jumbo-sized packages of products, with the necessary freezer/pantry/closet space etc to store it all when you get home. That is, after you've paid up and gotten your cart(s) past the Gestapo agents at the exit--the ones copperwire previously noted. (OK you spent $300, but the question is what are you stealing from us?) Good stuff that, I guess that's the "gauntlet part" of your membership.
Cheap gas? Near me the Krogers food stores offer a "fuel points" kickback on gas that works for me, deducted from their already low pump prices. Then again I don't average but three or four 13 gallon fill-ups a month.
About this particular deal for the Glad kitchen bags with Staples? I think it's a good enough deal, and I'm in for one. Staples will bring it to my house in a couple of days with no shipping charges (i.e. no driving to store, standing in line, and store exit fun). How? Well this year after scoring some clearance deals, plus some Rewards points deals for batteries and software and such (where I'm basically out just tax after cashing in), I find myself to be a "Plus" member. That means I get free shipping on any order--evidently "Premier" members get that too, plus other stuff. Btw the Staples Rewards membership is $0 a year--so any riff-raff like me can join. So thanks for the deal post Mistercheap--btw I'm already fixed up for paper towels from Staples in much the same way!
If the store is close, the "cheap gas" is actually a good deal. Especially combined with a cash-back credit/rewards card with extra % on fuel purchases on top of the Big Box discounts. Obviously if the store is 100 miles away, not such a deal there.
Not a big fan of the "Gestapo" at the exits either but not a big deal for the savings IMHO. I know some are opposed on principle and that's fine, shop somewhere else.

Exactly how much have you stolen from Costco/Sams?
I hate that I buy bags of ice and forget it on the way out (yes, the 30s from the register to the freezer). The gestapo never says "Oh, your receipt says 15 items, but you only have 13 items in your basket."
Thankfully, my C is only 3mi from me, sort of on the way to work so I can swing by and get some gas if I need it. What they need to start carrying is better Chicken Nuggets for the kids... Tyson's suck.

I live in New York, which means i have zero storage space. Living in New York also means no car, thus no way to carry the goods home. and finally, living in New York means that I'd have to schlep to East Harlem. And living in the west village, that just aint happening..
