Can we use this with an existing phone plan or we need to take another data plan ?

KVA said:   Can we use this with an existing phone plan or we need to take another data plan ?

They are pretty sucky at this - I tried my own sim (with data) in several of these, and it will tell you to add their web only plan. I think there is a way around it using a generic connection manager, but I never managed to put more time into it.

I do not believe there is any way around it, this IMEIs for the TMobile branded devices are blocked in their system to ONLY allow mobile broadband plans, not phone+data plans.

I am not 100% sure if the $15 card adds as cash balance or is a dedicated mobile broadband card and only works on mobile broadband accounts.

As a prepaid kit this device should come with a mobile broadband SIM -- but again, that SIM will only activate on mobile broadband plans (which are better recently but still not as good as the ones that come on phones, especially the $30 5gb/100 min plan)

Finally, when asked those personal questions by Tmobile (amazing what their service can dig up on you!) be certain its just doing a (very invasive) fraud check but there is no credit inquiry or contract opened up on you. Also, if your order is declined even though everything is valid, including the answers, it could be TMobile is blocking you from ordering -- which they might do if for example you ordered a bunch of prepaid 99 cent SIMs in the past.

HTH... PS, I clicked through FatWallet and hope this counts as a prepaid phone order, in which case I would get $7.50 back on the $10 purchase. We shall see, FW has always paid out for me in the past on TMobile orders, but this is the first time its 'mobile broadband' and not phone.

what about these?:

Restrictions for Use
Cash Back available on new activations and equipment only.
Cash Back on 2nd and subsequent phones will be reported at a later date than 1st phone.
Cash Back not available for data only plans.

How much does the prepaid data cost?
Not able to find out with t5he above link

Thanks guys. Even if we have to take a data plan is there any contract associated with it or just pay per use/monthly fee? any idea ?

rpi1967 said:   How much does the prepaid data cost?
Not able to find out with t5he above link

it's under Accessories tab:

·$15 – 300MB week pass
·$25 – 1.5GB month pass
·$35 – 3.5GB month pass
·$50 – 5GB month pass

@KVA: this is no contract monthly prepaid. Prepaid Mobile Broadband Plans: Service available for time period and/or usage amount provided by Pass. For time period, a day is 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., based on time zone associated with account phone number. Usage rounded up to the nearest KB each session; 1024 KB = 1 MB. Only one Pass may be active at a time. Account suspended after 365 days of inactivity. Data only; does not include voice, messaging or Wi-Fi services.

Sorry if I'm being slooow, but I'm a total newbie with mobile stuff.

So this is a pre-paid 4g access dongle for laptops (or other usb things) that includes
a $15 card that on its own is good for a "one week pass" with 300 Mb max data. After that you need
to add more money to keep it going at these rates or add more money + the card up front to get one of the
month passes??? (week pass looks crazy expensive based on data / time)

·$15 – 300MB week pass
·$25 – 1.5GB month pass
·$35 – 3.5GB month pass
·$50 – 5GB month pass

And if you don't use in a 1 year time period they expire your account ?

Good catch. So I won't expect Cash Back but may get lucky. I think the key point people should consider is that 15 dollar card likely won't apply as cash to phone based accounts.. instead hard coded as week pass.

another newb question: does it work with tablets like iPad or Acer Iconia A500?

IVYtony said:   another newb question: does it work with tablets like iPad or Acer Iconia A500?

dongles like this require connection software installed on your machine, so i'd say no.

IVYtony said:   another newb question: does it work with tablets like iPad or Acer Iconia A500?

It won't work. For that you need a WiFi hotspot. They have those on sale too for $70.

You could use this with a tablet if you bought a Cradlepoint. Cradlepoints are mini, battery powered (optional) Wi-Fi routers designed to plug into a USB aircard.

But unless you need HSPA+ -- a prepaid MiFi would probably be a better option.

can i use a data plan sim card in my phone if I don't need voice and text?

I'm hoping it's cash value for a data plan, because I'm going to a T-Mobile store to pay $10 more to get the 1.5 GB monthly plan. Hopefully a CSR will make it happen.

I see price as 29.99

You can always do the $30/month 5 GB 100 minute plan.

Looks like this deal has expired.

I sure did, and already got a reply from one who lambasted Tmobile for doing it.....
(so he sent his reply to all, also)
I see over 1100 eMail addys indicated, Tmobile used cc: instead of bcc:

Here is one

Dear T-Mobile,

Thank you for upgrading my order however I am concerned/horrified that you have released my e-mail to a large group of people that I do not know and I am sure they are equally concerned/horrified that you have given their e-mail address to a large group of people they do not know. Please explain to me how this happened and what you will be doing to correct the problem. The value of this mistake far outweighs the value of the laptop modem that I ordered from you.

Somebody @ T-Mobile may be joining the ranks of the unemployed soon.

T-Mobile sent a "Recall" e-mail, which effectively re-sent the entire 1100+ e-mail address list to the same recipients. Nice work, T-Mobile. /Sarcasm

eMail from Tmobile

no BCC or CC showing
to and from are both Orders5@T-Mobile.com

It has come to T-Mobile’s attention that you may have received a recent e-mail from T-Mobile Orders notifying you of a delayed equipment order, and that the e-mail message may have inadvertently included other customer e-mail addresses in the distribution list. We apologize for the inadvertent inclusion of those additional recipient e-mail addresses. We assure you that this was unintentional and is not our ordinary practice. We are taking measures to address this error. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, you may contact T-Mobile Customer Care.

eMail just now from Tmobile
Says shipped on June 4....
If true I would have had it by now.

Got mine. But T-Mobile never activated them when they left, so there is no way to activate it through the normal procedure. Poor guy on the phone has been trying to get it in his system for over an hour.

Just a heads up...

T-Mobile is replacing the Jet 2.0 with the Rocket 4g.

The Rocket 4g has lower specs than the Jet 2.0

Jet 2.0 Spec

Rocket 4G Spec

Rocket 4g supports less bands than the Jet 2.0...

T-mo should have replaced the Jet 2.0 with the Rocket 3.0 4g which has the equivalent specs.

First TMo screws up an order update by publishing our email to 500+ email addresses... now they're replacing our device with a lower spec device....

What's up with that?

I have now heard from three people who are in the same boat as me - their sim can't be activated and customer care tells you to send it back for a refund and then to just "reorder", but of course, the reorder can't be done for the same price.

In this case, it was a great deal, but my $10 is wasted.

They don't activate the device, you always do. Inside the box should have been an activation card. Both the SIM card and activation card look like the 99c ones for their cell phones and some people reported the activation wasn't fluid. They had to call the activation hotline to get an (overseas) agent to get it done.

I initially had a software issue during setup, so I called in and a friendly rep activated my device efficiently. If I had not solved the problem, I would've gone to a T-Mobile store and hoped somebody would have a clue.

The refill card can be stacked with a $10 payment to buy a monthly pass. If so inclined, you can even use the broadband refill card to top off a prepaid voice plan.

The device a ZTE MF591 TMO Rocket 2.0 Lite MBB Kit broadband
and a 115 MBB data refill card

In the package was just the broadband device....
In that box which was sealed is the sim card holder with no sim card in it.
It will not slide open like booklet shows to see the sim card...And I see no slot for the memory card.

Also could the date be on the sim already, there was only 1 item in the box,

No - this is the step BEFORE customer activation. The sim isn't even in their system and the IMEI comes up as unknown in whatever computer their reps use.

Over 5 days since I told I got no $15 refill card, and no reply...
