Thinkpad T420: i3 2310(2.1GHz,) 1600x900, 4GB, 320GB, Intel Graphics, Win7 Pro x64, DVDRW, WiFi: $457, $450 after FatCash!!!
This is SO very much better than the $450ish i5 notebooks you see on sale every week @Fry's. 1600x900 screen is 1.4x your average 1280x800 or 1366x768 screen.
Finally ended my two month laptop search on this deal.. feel like I got everything I needed - other than a great resolution size - but at the end of the day - I've used my laptop for videos about once a month, so I can live with it. Thanks, OP!

~$300 for an I3 refurb is not bad but I think with the upcoming set of chips that you can get new near this price soon, IMHO.

So you'd pass. What about the keyboard change issue?

it'd be a while before you can get any kind of thinkpad ivybridge for ~$300, refurb or otherwise. non-thinkpads, sure; the question of the keyboard change doesn't arise at the $300 price point.

Thanks so much! My old laptop was running super slow, it needed to go, but I was looking for something cheap and basic. Got a decent replacement for $227 OTD w/FW CashBack. No one locally could come close!
Where do these refurbs ship from? Do you have to wait extra long for delivery like you would when you custom build a new ThinkPad?

Most of the refurbs and scratch & dent units come from Morrisville, NC IIRC. Since they're already built they typically ship out in 2-3 business days.

Mine shipped from Greensboro NC...
It took about 4 days to ship and 7 days to arrive; and looked like UPS used it for soccer practice. I did not accept it becuase of Lenovos return policy.
"If Lenovo makes an error in fulfilling Customer’s order, Customer may return or exchange a Product in its sealed, unopened package... and ...Returns allowed for any other reason will be subject to a restocking fee in the amount of 15% of the price paid."
How is someone supposed to know if Lenovo made an error and/or item is damaged unless you open it???
From Lenovos Sales Agreement;
3. Returns If Lenovo makes an error in fulfilling Customer’s order, Customer may return or exchange a Product in its sealed, unopened package to Lenovo for a refund or credit. Customers may only return the entire Product or all such Products for a refund or credit. Returns allowed for any other reason will be subject to a restocking fee in the amount of 15% of the price paid. All returns must be initiated within 21 days of the invoice date. Partial refunds or credits for Products, including installation of software Product options; or quantities of Products that are not separately priced, are not available to Customers. In order to to return a Product, Customer must contact Lenovo to obtain an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). Any authorized return must include the Product and all accessories in their sealed, unopened packaging, along with all documentation (including invoice, RMA and original shipping label). It must be received at the Lenovo National Return Center within ten (10) days of issuance of the RMA. Returns on any other basis may be refused by Lenovo. Customer assumes risk of loss and damage for Products returned without an RMA

Any known problems with the x120e? There are a few in there that seem nicely priced.
Just bought a cheap T500 refurb for under $300. I could care less about the spec and just needed a cheap ThinkPad while waiting for the next price drop. Thanks OP!

How doess a customer know that "Lenovo makes an error in fulfilling" his order if he can't open to see what is in the box???
Or does the above T&C mean that it must be returned in the original box?
TIA

FYI while there are still some decent deals this was posted over 24 hours ago on SD and most of the really hot deals were snapped up over a day ago (e.g., X120Es for less than $200 with coupon). That said the outlet does restock over time so worth keeping an eye on it. Also note that most of these are refurbs which should be like new. Scratch and dent will say that and they are likely to be scratched or dented in my limited experience. I bought S&D Thinkpad from here and it did have some minor scratches on the lid (not a big deal for a $150 laptop).

Their return policy is not great. I have dealt with their customer service and they'd probably do ok by you but honestly I would go into the deals here assuming that if you have a problem you might be on the hook for the 15% (note: I have not had to return anything so I have never tested customer service on that).

Nope, it means ""sealed, unopened package""
What it really means that if you have a problem of any kind, expect to pay return shipping costs plus a 15% restocking fee; thats if you can get the RMA first. Not customer friendly.

If I tell you that I know what you know about "PC Matic" and then think back to the commercial, then maybe you can see the humor?
